Home gym
« on: July 08, 2013, 08:20:58 AM »
So my new flat has a fully prepped gym room in the basement.  Mirrored wall, padded floors, t.v. mounted in corner.  I just need equipment.

What is best place to get dumbells?  I am thinking getting some used is best price option.

Also, I think I just need a combo flat bench/incline.

Time to get ripped

Craigs list. People buy them thinking they're going to workout and then never do.

try to find a used adjustable dumbell.  target/walmart type places have them but they are expensive.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/19344144?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=21486607510&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=19880599990&veh=sem

really usefull and space saving.

the thing that I probably use the most is a perfect pull up bar that I got at a garage sale for 5 bucks.  http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=416399&catid=183327&aid=338666&aparam=goobase_filler&device=c&network=g&matchtype=

you can do a billion variations of pushups on them.

I have a bike I will sell you cheap.  Never use it.  Used to hate treadmills, but prefer them now.

Anyway, I will look at the bike when I get home, but I think it is a Nordic Track and is the kind with the magnets that internally provide resistance.

It has a fan in it too that you can point right at your face.

PM if interested.

Find what you want here:
http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=4417770

Search for it on craigslist.

I'd suggest going with the bowflex adjustable or something similar. Saves a lot of space and is cheaper than buying a full dumbbell set. From there, see if you can pick up a reasonably cheap workout bench either from a shop or from craigslist and you should be fairly set.  (from a free weights perspective, unless you really want more)

I have a Proform elliptical machine and down in my basement the previous owner left behind a curl bar and a few weights to go with it.  Curls for the girls!

stationary bike and eliptical

From where?
Bought a similar elliptical from Costco for $600 Xmas of 2011.
http://www.costco.com/ProForm%C2%AE-420-CE-Elliptical---Assembly-Included.product.100041623.html
My basement is not a walkout, so having the thing come in box so I could carry it downstairs in pieces was a plus.  I did have to put a new belt on it after about 100 hours of use, but it was on $20 at Graingers.

It is fairly smooth and quiet but I have a 40" inch tv about 4 feet in front of it so I don't really notice the noise.  I originally had a crappy 32" Westinghouse LCD but I found I get alot more use out of it now I have the 40" Mits.

I have all that except I have these http://www.ironmaster.com/Quick-Lock-Dumbbell-System-75-lb-set-with-Rack.html#.UdsCbDuyDww for dumbbells.  I got the add-on set up to 165.  Would recommend LSOC.  Me and the Mrs also have an elliptical.

Can't you just jog for 20 minutes every couple weeks like a normal person?
