I mean, this guy broke onto the scene by declaring, "I've never run a restaurant before, but I bet I can take one that failed in Aggieville and make it succeed on 4th street."

Well, downtown MHK is about to become the Plaza of the West, so ya, that's pretty spot on, Rick Daris.

Well, he is also the CEO of a successful company. Not your typical recently graduated bro in it for the after hours.

Sometimes this is how people deal with other people's success steve dave.  I don't get it, but I've seen enough of it to ID it.

I'd rather he just give me the thousands upon thousands of dollars he is about to lose.

if james sperman is allowed to try his hand at guaranteed losers... over and over... for his entire life why can't this guy give it a go once? he's at least a proven success at something else.

Once upon a time a bunch of haters thought there wasn't a buck to be made covering the KSU cats recruiting beat every single day on a top notch internet website while making hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad dollars and subscription fees while SIMULTANEOUSLY producing a full color magazine with in-depth feature writing.  They were proven wrong.  Dead wrong.

i agree with stevesie.  the problem with downtown is geography.  pretty much everyone in every part of town can get whatever this guy is proposing to put downtown somewhere that is closer and more convenient.

if they up the population in kk's part of town 2 or 3 fold and/or gentrify the s of pointz neighborhoods, then downtown might have a chance.  i guess the people staying at the new downtown hotels can count too.  but we're not there yet.

it's getting there though and i agree with what the guy said about a tipping point type of thing. get hibachi down there and a couple other places that might be fun (not scary) to grab a drink or two at and with what is already down there, it's well on it's way. a place for the 25 yr plus crowd.

ward should finance a free trolley to take people from the fun places to downtown to circumvent that problem

ward pays google fiber to go to downtown manhattan and not aggieville with his thousands of dollars. economic boom/successful coffee shop in wardville and aggieville becomes ghost town.

holy crap stock exchange beer prices?! sign ward and i up.
I like that too. But there would need to be random beer "recessions" because otherwise everyone would buy the first half of kegs and then move on when price went up. You'd end up with a bunch of partially drank kegs.

it sounds fun but wouldn't work. you'd end up with old beer. if you did it the other way nobody would start drinking it.

There is a way for this to work. They have to get everything ready to go by the time NBAF is in. Everyone moving into town will just think "Aggieville is for the students, Poyntz is for us old folks. Hopefully they have some nice early bird specials!" But even then, if they live in 90% of the Manhattan developments, they will have to drive right by Aggieville in order to get to Poyntz.

Easy ways to get around it.  You only do this for craft beer (obviously).

Great example would be a limited release Boulevard.  The bar only gets one keg.  When the keg is out...the beer no longer will be available until it is released again the following year (Saison Brett, Chocolate Ale, Rye on Rye, Coffee Ale, etc.).  As the keg gets 1/2 full, price jumps $1 or so.  Nothing major but on the digital signage it shows the beer in "red" as an alert that the price changed due to limited quantity.

Also the signage is a good way to put up specials, update specials (food or drinks), announce when kegs float or are tapped, etc.

I've been to a few brew places recently that print off (or write on chalkboards) their current beer lists and every time I seem to request a beer they no longer have.  They go through a lot of lists and can't get them updated fast enough.  Digital Signage and/or stock market method would give them an easy way to keep their lists updated, as well as create a fun environment.

Also beer specials are equivalent to the "recessions" you all are talking about.

"Excuse me, what is your happy hour special today?"  "Oh sir, our recession beers today are "blah blah blah."
