One of my grad school professors told us that 80% of people think they are in the top 10% at their job.  He was a strange guy so I don't know if it's true or not but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Yeah, I mean, I've had my great moments with jobs and I've also had some shitty ones. I guess that puts me in the middle. I'm really hoping to change that this time around.

This might be better served in the shame yourself thread but my first job out of college was direct sales for a cell phone company.  I sucked at it so I spent most of my time goofing off and playing on the internet.  I had gotten one of my friends a job there and one day I sent him an email from my company email address.  It was one of the infamous email in the early 2000's that when you opened it would somehow maximize the speaker volume and a voice would yell "Hey everybody I'm watching porno over here!" 

Only problem was I didn't send it to my friend Chad Smith, I sent it to the Chief Financial Officer Chad Smith in Pittsburgh, PA.   

I can only imagine his reaction to opening that email.  So anyway I show up to work one Monday and get called into HR where they put me on last chance warning.  I quit a month later.

It helps to quantify people on a bell curve and use it in ratings.

I once got an award for the top performing 1% in my org.  They essentially looked at 5000 people, picked 50 of them, and we all got a pretty cool designation.  Some guy in a Town Car showed up at my house with a formal invitation.  It was pretty snazzy.
