Most auto parts places can check an alternator to rule that out.alternator would stop the battery from recharging, not the car from starting. his electronics are working. it's either a starter or a distributor

Like, sitting at a stoplight, and the engine dies, or stop for gas and won't restart. The interior gauges, etc. all continued to function but you couldn't get it to turn over at all. Turned out to be the alternator.
Be sure to ask the mechanic to check the blinker fluid.
What's that illegal stuff they banned from ACs?
Starter
I'm going with starter is bad, or a faulty relay on the starting circuit.
it's either a starter or a distributor
starter.working electronics suggests that it is not your alternator, but that would be my 2nd guess

yeah i wasn't being sarcastic. everybody learned how their bodies worked in an 88 accord, or something similar (97 cavalier for mocat)
