That's rediculous. We always want to win, but practices over lunch is dumb. We had one small practice on a Sunday for flag football, but that was just to get the girls in sync.

guy on my team flipped off a batter while pitching during softball on sunday. was totally embarrassing... we benched him after that but he still complained like he was babe ruth or something.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

There certainly are some of those folks.

We usually attempt to have tryouts for the more popular ones but almost always end up just picking the team since everyone already knows who the best athletes are.

We don't take it seriously to the point that we no longer participate in Corporate Challenge.  I think this is the 2nd year is a row now that we did not have enough people interested in participating.

Is buying all new UA jerseys that say "The Bomb Squad" with our nicnames on the back what you would call "too serious"?  I hope not, we are just out to have fun (and crush other losers will to compete)

I've never been in one and hope I never am. Seems like a bunch of 40 year olds trying to relive past glorys.

We've hired about 10 ringers in various events. On a related note every NU football player that didn't make it to the NFL lives in the Omaha metro area and is currently looking for work.

I'll be honest, I was "that guy" during this years dodgeball tournament. I also carried us to an elite 8 finish, so I'm not ashamed at all for my actions.

I think it depends on what division you are in... way down here in division G we are more focused on just getting people to the events to get participation points.
As a former dodgeball gold medalist I was however disappointed in my teams 5th place finish this year.. (well tied for 5th with 3 other teams)

A few people take it seriously, but a majority don't give a crap, including myself. I've been asked multiple times to participate in different events & almost every time I mush them out of my face.

I had to let this one too-serious person know it wasn't that big of a deal to me when I skipped tug-of-war practice.  She came by after and was all where were you!  :shakesfist:  And I was like I did chest and back yesterday, and I didn't have time.

Multiple.  We arranged for time on a sand volleyball court.  She purchased us all matching gloves and tank tops.  We borrowed and "official" rope from the corporate challenge folks.  We have strategy discussions and debate over it ad naseum.

Strategy:
1. weigh more than the other team
2. pull hard when they say to
3. don't let go
4. win then high five other ppl in the same color glove as you.

We have adopted the strategy of more light people as opposed to less heavy people.  We have all been asked to cut weight.  I received a scowl upon mention of my Chipotle challenge.

Hmmmmm.  Cutting #1 will most likely lead to cutting #4.  I mean, it's been a while since I took Physics, and I am not saying it isn't possible, but.....

O man, who is ready for a ben ji FISHING TOURNAMENT related Corporate Challenge Rant?!?!?!?

There is a manager here who has been the representative the last couple years and is absolutely horrible. He conducts the "Try out" which is rigged so that no one else can/will want to go out.

How is it rigged you may ask? Well let me Tell you! You can only try out if you have a boat, kinda makes sense because you will need a boat for the fishing tournament. I dont have a boat but I've got a buddy who works here that I've been fishing with since we were kids, he also happens to have a lil john boat. Things are looking good, we will go out, dominate some fish and bring great glory upon our company.

BUT NOPE, guy running tryout says that each person trying out has to fish by themselves on their OWN BOAT. The two that do the best will be the representative's and fish together. His reasoning? In case one person's boat doesnt work that day.  :blank:

Well last year of course said manager and the only other guy to show up with a boat are the representatives. They spend 6 hrs on the water trying to land the highest combined weight of Crappie/bass. They catch a grand total of ZERO FISH in this 6 hrs....DID I MENTION THEY COULD USE LIVE BAIT BUT ALL THEIR MINNOWS DIED IN THE LIVE WELL 1 HR IN?!?!? HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN.

Maybe 2012 was just a bad year you say? NOPE, in 2011 same guy took last place with 4 Crappie AND 0 bass.

Well he must of had a killer 2010 tournament then right? NOPE, 1 bass 0 crappie. LAST PLACE.

But heaven forbid the dream team of ben ji and his fishing bud from the past 15 years fish the tryout together BECAUSE WHAT IF YOUR BOAT BREAKS THAT DAY? Hell, even if the boat did break I GUARANTEE I COULD CATCH MORE FISH FROM THE SHORE THAN THE ZERO FISH YOU CAUGHT IN 2012!!!!

:bang: :curse: :chainsaw:

Publicly shame him and then loudly publicly challenge him to this.  Him in his boat for 6 hrs, you on your companies lake shore over lunch.

I've tried, I even sent the head corporate challenge person an email with nothing but my companies finish in fishing the past 3 years with the subject line "Time to Rock The Boat?" to no avail.

Fishing tournament was rained out this year anyways.

Is the tourny on a weekday?  cause that sounds like an excellent way to guarantee you get to a day on the water on the company dime.
