According to a 2007 study in the Journal of Environmental Health, nearly 70% of the lemon wedges perched on the rims of restaurant glasses contain disease-causing microbes. When the researchers ordered drinks at 21 different restaurants, they found 25 different microorganisms lingering on the 76 lemons that they secured, including E. coli and other fecal bacteria.

 :sdeek:

I almost can't drink water without a refreshing lemon slice in it. Should I switch to pop?

Just ask for a whole lemon and tell them that you want to slice it yourself.

bout 25% of public restroom dispensers are contaminated with fecal bacteria. Soap that harbours bacteria may seem ironic, but that's exactly what a recent study found. "Most of these containers are never cleaned, so bacteria grow as the soap scum builds up," says Charles Gerba, PhD. "And the bottoms are touched by dirty hands, so there's a continuous culture feeding millions of bacteria." Be sure to scrub hands thoroughly with plenty of hot water for 15 to 20 seconds - and if you happen to have an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, use that, too.

What is the point of using hot water? Unless you are using boiling water.

There's a guy in my office that purposely doesn't wash his hands, #1 or #2.  He's like a super vegan or something.  Thinks it's wrong to EVEN KILL GERMS.

Hot water increases the effectiveness of the soap, and dissolves better with the oils and grime on your hands than cold water. So while the water itself isn't actually hot enough to kill the bacteria, it does a much better job of actually washing the bacteria off of your hands than cold water.

The lemon already has poo on it before being sliced.

You can use hand sanitizer on the peel before you slice it. It's not like you are going to eat the peel, anyway.

It's not about you it's about the weak ones like kids and old people.  BTW, my genes would totally dominate your genes.

What if I wipe it down with anti-bac gel from my purse? Also, I use lemons at home too. I rinse them off, but now I think I should scrub the crap out of them. :dunno:

Going through this life afraid of germs on shopping carts and menus must be exhausting.

I wash my hands and stuff, but I'm not going to worry about every door knob in town.

He's the crazy guy in the office everyone just avoids.  One time his boss told him his desk was too cluttered to he cleared every single thing off it except monitors, docking station, and mouse.  Now it looks like no one sits there.  Does have a name tag I guess.

I would have made him put all of his trash in a bag labeled "biohazard" when he cleaned the desk off. That guy sounds like one gross son of a bitch.

There is more bacterial DNA in you and on you than human DNA. You don't need to be scared of them.

No, you just need to kill them with extreme prejudice.

the thread title suggests that the germs are "gross" and i usually take that as a bad thing.

I think you are over-analyzing things, Kelly Stewart Creep. I mean, I think it's pretty gross that mushrooms grow on crap, but I still eat them and think they are delicious.

germs ARE gross, and anyone that disagrees is obviously a gross human being.

but that's for another thread.  this one is about places where they live and kill people.

Seems like there are plenty of ignorant fuckfaces coming out of the wood work to demonstrate their rugged manliness by how much poop they're cool with ingesting or handling.  I mean one is obviously a total badass beastman if one is willing to lick a public toilet or suck a homeless guy's unwashed scrote.  It's like UFC without the fighting.  Real men's men.  Discussions of germs are exclusively for women and gay children.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

Those big washers that people throw while tailgating. I mean, they go use a port-a-potty after drinking 11 beers or so and then go right back to tossing the washers.
