Isn't Omari a senior and from New York?  If so, it's a homecoming for both of them for their senior seasons.  Sure, Tulane is a pretty meh opponent, but the chance to play in an NBA arena in (or near) their hometowns has to be pretty exciting.  Kudos to Weber for getting this lined up!

Won't this be our 3rd game in the last handful of years playing in the New York NBA arenas?

Hopefully Thomas is able to play by then and can play in his home town*.

*I know that he's from Queens and not Brooklyn, but whatever.

That is a good question - mid seasons transfers get to play as soon as the fall semester ends but I can't recall a similar mid year academic situation.

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Big 12 champion Kansas State will play Tulane as part of a tripleheader at the second annual Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival presented by Honda on Saturday, Dec. 28 at Barclays Center.

The tripleheader on Dec. 28 will lead off with a game between St. John's and Columbia then follow with K-State and Tulane and VCU and Boston College. Game time and television coverage will be announced at a later date. The Wildcats will play just the single game with the Green Wave.

Tickets to the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival will go on sale Friday, May 17 at 9 a.m. CT and can be purchased via Ticketmaster by visiting www.barclayscenter.com or www.Ticketmaster.com, or by calling (800) 745.3000. Tickets will also be available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center beginning Saturday, May 18 at noon ET, or through group sales at (800) GROUP-BK.

"This will be a great opportunity to take our East Coast guys home - especially being Shane's senior year - and play in a world-class arena like the Barclays Center," said head coach oscar Weber.  "Tulane is a quality opponent, who is coming off a 20-win season and postseason appearance, so it will be another solid test for our team."

The 2013-14 Kansas State roster will include four New York/New Jersey area players, including seniors Omari Lawrence (Bronx, N.Y.) and Shane Southwell (Harlem, N.Y.) and incoming freshmen Neville Fincher (Teaneck, N.J.) and Jevon Thomas (Queens, N.Y.). Last season, the Wildcats played two games at historic Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off.

The home to the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and soon-to-be home of the New York Islanders, the Barclays Center opened on Sept. 28, 2012 and is a major sports and entertainment venue in the heart of Brooklyn, N.Y. The arena, which holds 17,732 for basketball, will host several college basketball tournaments in 2013-14, including the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational (Nov. 21), Coaches vs. Cancer Classic (Nov. 22-23) and the Barclays Center Classic (Nov. 29) and Barclays Center Women's Invitational (Nov. 30).

Tulane posted 20 wins for the first time in 13 years in 2012-13, as the Green Wave recorded a 20-15 overall record and finished in a tie for ninth place in Conference USA with a 6-10 mark. Led by fourth-year head coach Ed Conroy, the squad advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2000 with a trip to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Green Wave tallied their first postseason win since 1996 with an 84-73 victory over South Alabama in the CIT First Round before falling to Bradley, 77-72, in the second round.

This will be the fourth all-time meeting between K-State and Tulane and the first since the 1993 NCAA Tournament in Orlando, Fla. The Green Wave is 2-1 all-time against the Wildcats, winning 71-57 at home on Jan. 11, 1975 and 55-53 in the NCAA South Regional First Round on March 18, 1993 at the Orlando Arena. The lone K-State win in the series came at home, 81-69, on Jan. 10, 1976.

Led by 2013 Big 12 Coach of the Year oscar Weber, Kansas State enjoyed one of its best men's basketball seasons in 2012-13, posting a 27-8 overall record and 14-4 mark in league play en route to its first-ever Big 12 regular season championship and a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 27 wins were the second-most in school history, while the 14 in league play tied the school record held by the 1958-59 team. The league championship was the 18th in school history and the first since the 1976-77 season.

Good idea for us to schedule Tulane and let them audition for our conference. Some have said they would be a great addition to the Big 12, and usually those people know what is best for us.

On Wednesday, oscar Weber said the Wildcats are close to finalizing their 2013-14 schedule. And their first trip to Sprint Center won’t come until the Big 12 Tournament.

“Part of the problem with Kansas City is, if you are going to go there you want a good game,” Weber said by phone. “What happens the year after? You have to go on the road and play a quality opponent. Next year (2014-15) we have the Maui Invitational and the Big12/SEC challenge on the road. We already have some road games and a tough tournament.

“That was part of our dilemma. We looked for maybe the possibility of some teams playing us in Kansas City without a return, but we just couldn’t find a good enough opponent. I don’t think that is going to happen.”

I HATE THIS, I ALSO HATE WHEN THE MEDIA GIVES BIG TIME PROPS FOR HAVING A TOUGH SCHEDULE. They is no reason in college basketball to ever play a easy schedule. Tough schedules bring your RPI up and give you more chances at quality wins and less chances at bad losses. It is a win win win.
