We also did a "hike" on a closed dirt road to see some petroglyphs and we were the only people there. Great stuff.

off nine mile canyon?  wife and i stopped there on our way back from ks after xmas.

Anyone take their dog on a long trip like this? I should have her by my side most of the trip (Bears/Cougars will eat her first sparing me) besides quick runs into stores etc where I can leave her in the car. The only time I might be away from her is if I inflate my kayak and go out on a lake/river. Tie her to a tree and stay in sight? Keep her at campsite in Vehicle with window cracked in the shade? Bring a kennel and set it up outside or in tent?

been all over north america with dogs in cars.  hard to imagine traveling any other way.

in the mountains, your dog should be fine in the car in shade.  be generous with the crack.

you can do wonders with these.

Planning my 2019 Vision Quest and would appreciate any feedback or tips, will be just me and my dog in our Rav4 out taking on the world. Tentative date is middle of July and we will be leaving KC on a Friday after work then taking the whole next week off. Planning spend Saturday at the farm near colby helping my dad do farm stuff like feed the cats then its off to the Mountains on Sunday morning.

Stops –

1.   Somewhere in the mountains in Northern CO for a day or 2 of camping/fishing/hiking.
2.   Miracle Mile in WY for some trout fishing (Starts just downstream from Seminoe state park)
3.   Follow N Platte river up to Casper, fishing/camping wherever (Tentative spot is Buffalo Berry Campground)
4.   Drive to the Valentine National Refuge in the beautiful Sand Hills of NE for some fishing.

Besides normal camping gear/food is there anything I might not think of to bring that I should?

I am starting this vision quest on Friday July 12th, pretty excited.

I've booked a campground spot at Chambers lake in CO for Sunday and Monday. Plan on taking this hike during the day on Monday

https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recarea/?recid=36743

Then on Tuesday I'm heading to the miracle mile in WY to try my luck at trout fishing.

Couple of questions.

1. I've never been on a 5 mile hike up a mountain before but I'm in pretty good shape (weigh the same as I did when I was honorable mention all sunflower league at LB and can still see some of my abs). Lady and I should be able to make that 5 mile hike to blue lake and back with no issues if we leave in the morning, right?

2. Can I just pitch my tent in the middle of nowhere and camp for the night off a dirt road or something as long as its in a park? I've reserved a spot at the campgrounds on Chambers lake for Sunday/Monday but there are no campgrounds close to the miracle mile fishing in WY so I'm thinking I might just pop a squat next to the river on Tuesday/Wednesday.

3. Why can't I buy a daily WY fishing license online? I'm going to have to find a wallys or something I guess.

I'm going to do a 1 night camping test run with Lady over the 4th of July weekend somewhere close to KC so we will see how that goes.

Yes, but be aware that you won't be able to set up camp if there's too much activity nearby.

Is this like a hippie quest with shrooms, chodecat? I don't see you much as an outdoor man who fishes and stuff.

Unplanned is the best. Do you know the general area you will be driving to at least or do you just plan on driving west until you decide to stop?
