Consarnit! I've driven by that lake at least a half dozen times. Never in winter though.

Did you drive through Cimarron Canyon? I imagine the Palisades are beautiful in the snow.

Did some VQ'n around Moab this weekend.  What a great place to explore.  Have been several times, but always find something new.

Is there much animal life around Moab?  Doesn't seem like there would be enough feed.

Have you ever seen the video of the kids using that thing as a swing?  I would love to do that on that thing.

Too late.  Rope swing was banned a couple years ago.

I've seen several mule deer in the area.  I think there's a small herd of desert bighorns in and around Arches NP.  But you're right, there's not much to chew on and the valleys that do probably have livestock on them.

I accepted a new job offer and am wanting to take a vacation before I start the new gig.  My folks have offered to give us a vehicle and watch our son while we get all vision quest'y.  They are in PDX.  So I'm looking for ideas to get wild, away from people.  We were there last summer and while it was beautiful everything we saw halfway close to Portland had a lot of other people.  Looking to drive, put a camp on our backs and cover some miles and rough it for a couple days.  Looking for recommendations, probably less than 4 hours from Portland.  I've heard about the Eagle Caps but that's it.  Would imagine Hood and St Helens can be pretty crowded.  Anyone have any local knowledge?
