Here's a few more reasons to go in the Winter:

The Tetons, with fog coming up off of the Snake River

Elk refuge at Jackson

Yeah, I wish I would have had a real camera and not just my phone.  The pics don't do them justice.  That is just a small portion of the bulls that were out there.

This is my favorite place to fish up there.  There are not many people that know this lake even exists, and half of them don't know how to find it.  I always just set my rod down for a while and take in the peacefulness and remoteness of this place.....and that is hard to do when you are catching 3-4 pound brook trout.

Love seeing bighorns!  Those guys are huge compared to the desert variety I've run across.

Yes but in creek side mud.  I'm more afeared of bears honestly.

Me too.  They still leave a big damn track though.  Haven't gotten to see an actual wolf yet.

Really? I've no experience in such matters but it seems it'd be easier to defend oneself against a lone bear than a pack of wolves?

Wolves tend to avoid people.  Bears avoid nothing.

A couple of pics of Brooks lake.  If someone would show me how to Pakhead, I will post the pic of Schreds' Dad and the 24" Rainbow he caught out of here.  Also has Lake Trout and Splakes.  I have yet to catch a laker though.  Lots of camping areas here although the last two years they have not allowed tent camping due to grizzly activity and timber falls.  As you can see in the pics, there was significant beetle kill in this area.  They have been logging this area pretty heavily the last couple years.  We'll see if they let the tents back in this year.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but wolf advocates always say there is not a single documented case of a healthy wolf attacking humans in the US.  If it has happened, it is so very very rare, like maybe a few times in a hundred years.

Bears have been known to defend themselves, females with cubs.  They also have been known to claim hunter killed elk or deer as their own.  Pushing a bear off a carcass a scary task.

I just really hope I never have to tangle with one of these things, armed or not.  Saw this sow and her 2 cubs just a couple of miles from Wind River Lake

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but weren't there like 0 wolves left in the US until we imported some from Canada like 15 years ago?

I believe that is true, or very close to the truth (not sure on date).

Yes, the beetle infestation decimated the white bark pines in this region.  Some people are saying this is one reason the grizzlies are ranging farther and farther as the white bark pine nut is one of their primary food sources.
