if he were really a spectator, the backpack would be comfortably on his back. If he was going to ditch the device somewhere and make a quick exit, he would carry it like that.
I wouldn't put my backpack on my back in a crowded area if I didn't want anyone to steal the stuff inside.

4Chan is going to pick on some poor sap who just went to the marathon without any friends. They're going to ruin someone's life.

yeah, it was his first time in the big city and he didn't want people stealing things from his backpack.

That is probably an accurate assessment.  4Chan may start to get on the right track but they will derail themselves, it just is not in them to actually solve this.

Not like the authorities have proven themselves much better at identifying suspects and protecting their identity. Only need look at the last high profile bombing in the US, security guard hero turned prime suspect turned innocent civilian Richard Jewell.

And this Saudi kid, http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/comment/2013/04/the-saudi-marathon-man.html

I wear a backpack in SF all the time, and when you're in a big crowd, it's a lot easier to maneuver by carrying it in front of you. He also could have stopped to get a drink of water or something.

Maybe it will teach losers with no friends to just stay home so we can better identify the losers with no friends who blew stuff up.

The Boston Globe is reporting a suspected has been identified.  4Chan is going to explode if it is their guy.

Don't think it is their guy, suspect is being described as a dark skinned male.  Which raises another question, should it be ok to describe a suspect in such vague terms? Talk about probably causing everyone to freak out anytime they see a guy who is not white.

Not to mention two very heavy bags. I bet they were leaving to put that duffel bag in place

Honestly, the Saudi kid story pissed me off.

And this:"there was a note that his name in Arabic meant 'sword'" is so WTF I don't even know what to do with it.

This is a dark day for the backpack industry. May head to the investing thread for some leads on hot cargo-pants stocks.

What happened to the tall white dude carry the backpack all weird?  That seemed more legit because of the gray strip on the strap.

Mrs Rex's immediate reaction to that pic:

"Only an Arab would wear a blue tracksuit"

I mean, she also said "he looks Moroccan or Tunisian," but I didn't find that as entertaining.

I bet meeting Mrs. FR would be a treat. Or meeting FR, for that matter.

Would buy FR a beer to listen to his stories and escapades in Egypt.
