Name me a 90's band that is not overrated, and I'll name you a dozen that are.

The Toadies. Your move mocat

Smashing Pumpkins
Nirvana
Stone Temple Pilots
Alice In Chains
Foo Fighters
Bush
Oasis
Dave Matthews
Sonic Youth
Jane's Addiction
Pearl Jam
The Black Crowes

This is fun.  Soundgarden.

Whoa. Soundgarden is absolutely overrated. Sonic Youth --not so much.

Interesting because 3+ people have agreed Nirvana is overrated and you're the only one claiming the Smashing Pumpkins are.

Quote
“Do I belong in the conversation about the best artists in the world? My answer is yes, I do,” Corgan told Rolling Stone. “I’ve been too productive for too long, and despite what anybody wants to strip away from me, I am influential.”

Billy Corgan is one of the most self inflated "artists", not to mention a gigantic douchebag, the music industry has ever seen.

Quote from: Billy Corgan
Let me be blunt. When oscar Springsteen puts out a new album I pay attention. Same with Neil Young. Because they’re major artists who have something to say. I consider us in that category. When we do something it should be taken seriously, even when we’re off. If we’re marginalized by the culture, we’re not going to play dead and say thank you for our B-plus status.

Like, what Mr. Bread said.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

definitely right. there is this weird fall out when a band as historically significant as sonic youth goes without recognition throughout their careers where some fans (typically newer fans) overreact and attach themselves to that underappreciation. depending on the context, sonic youth is both vastly underrated and overrated.

the stupid hipsters more than likely picked up their Sonic Youth t-shirt at Urban Outfitters and haven't knowinly heard anything the band has ever done.  but.  their older brother used to listen to them and they remember him wearing his Goo shirt when they were in 1st grade.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Goo Goo Dolls are underrated. They're not just for chicks. Same with Gin Blossoms.

I'm assuming this thread is now just rate 90s bands thread.

Oasis is definitely(maybe ) underrated by Americans, but overrated by the British. Solid band.

asava, I have no idea what you're trying to say. Because he had a huge ego he must be overrated? Solid logic.

Oasis is great. Probably underrated.

Can we just change the title of this thread to "90's bands discussion"?

#1 90's band matchbox twenty, impossible to overrate because they rock so hard they break any ratings machine ever invented.  M20.

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they are overrated. You have to be highly rated to be overrated. I think they are very much underrated and under appreciated
