A grinder first half became an offensive 2nd half, but in both K-State was absolutely destroyed. KU's physical defense took the Cats completely out of their offense and the league's best defense won out against one of the best offenses. No team is going to win a game where the opponent shoots over 15% better. While KU won on 2PT shots .487 to .417, it was KU's .500 on 3s compared to only .250 for K-State that was the real story in allowing KU to blow out the Cats. It was a completely frustrating and disappointing evening to watch against KU once again.

All that said, it is no time to despair; the Cats recovered after a beatdown from KU once already this season and its highly unlikely that we are going to face a team even close to what KU presents next week, let alone the incredible mental destruction KU puts into the Cats before we even take the floor. This team still has every opportunity to be in the 2nd weekend, and I look forward to seeing where the Cats land on Selection Sunday.

it seemed like our 1st half game plan was to stand around and have Rodney throw up an off balance prayer or Angel dribble drive into withey. great plan!

Whatever our plan was, KU's defense took us completely out of it and we had no answer. I don't think the play was ever "stand around" we just couldn't generate shots. We had a nice stretch where we got some good shots and made none, once that happened I knew we had no chance.

The early ugliness we could overcome, but unlike last night we never had a nice run of making open shots when we generated them. We did weather KU's defensive storm and got that, not for a long stretch, but for enough. When we didn't hit any of those shots, our confidence was done and the normal KU head games destroyed us.

I think you're being obtuse this time. KU didn't take us out of our gameplan. Hell, they rolled out the red carpet for it, because it was rough ridin' moronic.

Our gameplan was to take the air out of the ball and force up a terrible shot in the paint in the last 5 seconds of the shot clock. So KU happily allowed us to do so, while patiently running their game and getting points despite really stupid TOs in the first half.

Then, when we tried to speed up while still stupidly forcing the ball inside, KU happily let us do that as well, while opening the floodgates (sorry ISU fans, Ts & Ps) offensively with the more open court.

"Took us out of our gameplan" my ass.

I'm not being obtuse. We weren't going to play fast, but every time we got an open look early in a possession or in transition we took it. We weren't just running clock to run clock, we just couldn't generate a lot of good shots. Yeah, part of that was on oscar and his offense, but a lot was just KU's physical defense and we didn't have an answer. Angel and Rod were forced to try to do things because no one else on the perimeter could; Tay, Shane, and Will combined to go 1-13 from 3 and they missed a lot of good looks at 3s. 40% of our shots were 3s (which was about right) but when this team hits only 25% of our 3s we aren't going to beat anybody.

Utterly false. We were absolutely passing up good looks early in possessions in the first half, repeatedly and explicitly.

We didn't pass up a lot of good looks. Maybe some marginal ones.

But whatever, you seem to be enjoying your meltdown, so go ahead.

 _fan. I agree, we're gonna be fine the first weekend.

Also, what was the total foul disparity, and the first 10 fouls called at the start of each half? Seems relevant when judging our team's performance.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Kougs you gotta let it go man. This is not a loss worthy of a meltdown. We were picked 5th preseason and ended up with a trophy, made the tourney finals, and are going to be favored to make the sweet 16 playing in Kansas City.

Everything we've done up to this point has been to get seeded and play at home. We did that... Fresh start. Gotta get the wins in KC
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Well you're not being positive. I want to hear you say something nice about our KSU wildcats to make things better... It'll be therapeutic. Go.

Releford did a hell of a job on Rodney, especially first half. You can't really expect us to shoot lights out from the field when we're playing our third day in a row,

I know, I mean, how could we match the energy of KU, which was playing only its....third....game...in a row....

It's not a meltdown til I get banned from a Texas Tech message board.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Because they aren't relying on creating and hitting jump shots with 5 seconds left on the shot clock. They had a dominant inside player and he shoved it down our throats.

Yeah, so maybe we shouldn't have been relying on that moronic strategy either.

Absolutely we shouldn't have. Trying to shorten the game was Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). We prepare for this game so much differently than any other game and then when crap starts flying we crumble because its so far inside our heads.

Just prepare like its any other rough ridin' game, oscar. Jesus Christ.

Playing Texas -> Oklahoma State compared to Tech -> Iowa State isn't the same we had less in are legs. Also considering KU had an extra three hours between games is a big advantage. Taking the air out of the ball was a good game plan, need to hit shoots. We won the turnover battle and didn't loose the rebounding margin.
