Had courtside seats last night and my 3, 5, 8, 11 and 14 year olds heard that lunatic go on a racially charged 10 minute warpath on human sensibility. We couldn't even stay for the Cats game they were so upset.

sorry but your kids need to toughen up... what do they think high school is going to be like ?

Apparently ljmhawk didn't hear the words and phrases Self was using. I've been in high school three and a half years and I've never heard of the things coming out of his mouth.

My kids are homeschooled and scored at a 12th grade level (oldest is in 8th grade) in a recent state assessment test. I guess I can't protect them from this filth everywhere though.

I think it depend on who is doing the homeschooling.  KSU grads are statistically richer, smart, and instill higher values, so it is okay.  But when you are a KU fan, and your area of expertise is chewing tobacco...

ljmhawk,   You are a freaking moron.   And this has nothing to do with you being a KU fan.

While i will agree that a 14 year old can usually handle listening to vulgar language, a 3,5 and a 8 year old dont need to be exposed to that

They dont need to grow up either.   They are 3, 5 and 8 year old kids.

Any Kstate fan that would agree you on your view of "they need to grow up"  is also a moron

Self made many ethnic slurs that I had to check Wikipedia to even understand what he was talking about. I'm not going to repeat them here but trust me when I say they were awful and I physically fell off my chair when I looked one of them up.

My neice is 5. My sister just called me to tell me that she learned 2 new words yesterday sitting behind KU's bench at the Sprint Center. They both start with the letter "f". If you don't know what I'm talking about, PM me and maybe I'll tell you. But I'm not going to put it out here on a public forum/blog for the whole world to see.

Actually, I had to go to the urban dictionary. Guy must really feed off the bottom in his secret life.

after his initial filthy tirade he turned around and went at that one ref and it sounded like he called him a "prissy flapjack" which I can't find online anywhere. I probably misheard him. He was making the "masturbation" motion with his hand when he said it but I still can't figure out for sure what he said.

That's a solid parenting move.  Scott and 'Manda are great kids and don't deserve to be exposed to that kind of stuff this early in life.  I wish Bill Self's young infant child had that kind of example.

One can only wonder what choice Okie meth den/trailer park cathouse words and phases he's saving up for the first-half, 10-minute mark tonight.
I just hope the conference considers getting the referees counseling for the abuse.

Agree on the language but was most appalled at the tv commercial that bill made and aired at the end of our game were he was basically telling ppl that they should step up and start fostering his illegitimate kids.

I was watching the game with my daughter and she got upset because "the mean, ugly man was scaring her". I ended up watching Dora the Explorer all night. Thanks a lot Bill Self.

ljmhawk, what is your hang up with home schooling?

We have home schooled all of our children and the 5 year old is currently reading at a 4th grade level and his 8 year old sister is enrolled at Juilliard.  The youngest one is for the most part a complete failure, but I don't really blame that on home schooling.  I think it's mostly that she's just not very intelligent.

I'm really glad I left the kids at home today. A fan of a certain team (I think you know what I'm getting at here) right behind me thought that using certain words to emphasize his thoughts on the game was "cool" and made him "tough".

I wrote letters to the Big XII, each of the member schools, the NCAA, the Sprint Center, and the governor informing them of this behavior. I hope they do the right thing here and make the Big XII the best conference in the NCAA by putting a stop to this nonsense.

I took my nephew to the game today (He turns 9 in June) like any good uncle would do. I thought it was going to be a family atmosphere so I accepted my brother's (9 year old nephew's dad) tickets even though they were in the KU section. My nephew heard several KU fans make some pretty horrible comments about people who wear purple's sexuality and then a few of the fans were calling me names. I can handle the names but it took every bit of strength I had to be the bigger man and show my nephew that sticks and stones... etc. I probably shouldn't say the words here because I know there are some high schoolers on this board but needless to say I will not be bringing my nephew to any more events involving KU. When I told my brother about the language going on he made some phone calls to the KU athletic department to complain. Wouldn't be surprised if he stopped donating.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.
