oscar Weber/Titletown statue
« on: March 12, 2013, 07:46:41 PM »
was thinking today we need to begin a push to get oscar a "titletown" statue outside of the OOD.  add a quote from tex winter, the inventor of the modern game of college hoops, along with maybe a shoutout to this year's players as well.

i think the best place to locate it would be to remove the ernie barrett thing and move that to somewhere in vanier and place oscar's statue right there.

anyway- i think right now the AD would be most receptive since they're shilling us fball season tix, plus we should strike while the iron is hot and we have momentum going into the ncaas.  reach out to The Governor now and express your support for the idea.  i have a buddy who does statues who is working up blueprints based upon my direction.  if you've got any ideas for the statue, this is your thread.

Some of my sources were saying that Kansas City (Manhattan East) has expressed interesting in putting a statue outside of the Sprint Center (Bramlage East). Do you think we ship them the Ernie Barrett statue, build the oscar on there, or go with your idea and erect something new like a Jacob Pullen statue there?

i really want the weber statue in titletown, rather than titletown east but i guess ultimately it will be the governor who decides that for us.  GOVERNOR!  :shakesfist:

honestly could see us putting the pullen one at the k-state olathe campus since it is closer to proviso east

grumblings about a titletown entrance going up as an entryway to the new sports complex.  WELCOME TO TITLETOWN, USA in steel supported by limestone columns.  i am trying to decide wherei come down on the USA part.  on one hand i love america (alot) but i feel like it limits us to just america, which i don't like.

I always tell noobies that Barrett was the inventor of the dimpled texture on a bball, before him, perfectly smooth. Blows their mind.

Can we put the Big XII COTY oscar Weber statue on a huge column? I want to be able to see it from inside the football stadium so that I'm always reminded that when we're done winning championships inside LHOFHCBS Family Stadium we can go inside the OOD and win some more championships.

All solid ideas IMHO. He's probably the best coach to come around since Lon. I don't see why not. Can we put on the statue: "36 years and counting... NOT ON MY WATCH!"

We need to carve Bill, oscar, Currie, and The Animal's likenesses into the side of Manhattan hill, then replace the "Manhattan" sign with "Titletown", or "Deal With It", or "What Now Motherfuckers", or something.

We could rename it Mt. Winmore or something.

thinking outside the box here but how about a gateway arch (think st. louis) leading into MHK that reads TITLETOWN?

could do it for all roads leading in and on the back side it could say "thanks for stopping by" or something along those lines since we are all great people

Good ideas on "relocating Mr. K-State".  I've been wanting to move that thing for quite some time.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Hey guyz, ben ji here. I like where everyone's head is at and we should definitely get the ball rolling.

Can we agree on the following?

1. Move the Ernie Barnett statue and replace it with a larger one of oscar.
2. Possible Statue of KSU Bball greats in Olathe/Sprint Center(College Bball hall of fame is here so we already have a ton of statue's inside)
3. Some sort of Limestone Structure to let people know they have entered titletown usa.(Love Kim's Idea)
4. Let the Govenor make any changes as he see's fit.

Anything else?

what kind of city code issues would we face if we were to close the streets in MHK to all cars and force people to ride around Titletown in chariots?  seems like something that kings would do and since we're basicially the kings of the NCAA there's no reason not to, + with the Ecokat push by Schulz i think it fits in with the university's green initiative goals.

peggy positives-
1) new job segment opened as chariot drivers would be in high demand
2) 100% elimination of greenhouse gas emissions and show world it can be done (hey india, take notes!)
3) NBAF
4) provide town a "camelot court" type atmosphere and increase town morale as everyone is treated like royalty
5) provide equestrian horses activity when in off season- turbo chariots, to be used by KSU VIPs
6) tourism skyrockets off charts

nancy negs-
1) wintertime (simple solution, develop heated chariots)
2) there are no other negatives

i want to build a temple, a place where people can come and pay homage to oscar and TITLETOWN.

The temple should also include an exhibit about the inventor of modern basketball and American hero Tex Winter.
