State of KSU Athletics 4 Years ago(2008-2009)
« on: March 06, 2013, 02:59:40 PM »
BBall

Then-

Frank was in his first season sans Beasley/Walker and on his way to a second round exit of the NIT. Most people agreed that the previous season was just a flash in the pan and KSU would struggle to maintain any success in BBall. Our 2 new Bball recruits were Butch Awaji and Abdul Herrera(We did have gruds and judge coming in next year but there was always the threat that Dalonte420 could leave and take them with him at any time)

Now-

25-5, Tied for Big12 lead with 1 game remaining. 4 straight NCAA tourney appearances including wins each year(The 3 we have played in) and an E8 in 2010. Winningest(sp?) senior class in school history. First year coach oscar Weber is a strong canidate for B12COY. Future is bright with Angel/Shane/Gip coming back.

FBall-

Then

Ron Prince had just been fired after going 5-7 and losing to KU for the 3rd straight year. After "Rumors" of hiring Gary Patterson KSU Decides to bring back old balls who had gone 9-13 in the 2 years before he retired. His stated purpose was to "Calm the waters". Bob Krause, Stud Fan/Bad AD, was running our Athletic department and news was leaking out regarding the "Napkin Extension" he had given Prince.

Now-
Back to back 10+ win seasons and COY honors for Old Balls including a Big12 Title. Katz were in the hunt for a national title until the second weekend of November, ditto for CK7 and the Heisman. DSams primed and ready to take over next year.

Pretty crazy to think about how much has changed in the last 4 Years. Feel free to include anything I may have missed.

Best part is each instance of our success is a big middle-finger to everyone outside of K-State.  Throughout the country and even in the Big 12 people basically think we should be Floodaggie.  Smallish school, small state, etc. Probably why Floodaggie hates us so much.  Probably a tuck post or whatever, but us kicking ass in everything under the sun is great, because nobody else thinks we should be doing what we have been.

I want two more mbb trophies in MBB so bad I can taste it, and I when I drive west through Topeka I want that billboard greeting me with three giant Big 12 trophies for the next year (Two Cups, one Tournament title.)
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

remember that 'story' a while ago that compared big 12 schools to European countries? i loved ours, it was something like:

"Ireland: A relatively small, overachieving country, that 'paks a lot and has a crap load of fun with it."

at least, that's how i interpreted

Texas is like the USA - Wealthy, talented, and with seemingly endless resources. They have a big ego, but are deserving of it because they win at almost everything they do. Others often despise them out of jealousy. Their money and wealth make the world go round, and everyone wants a piece.

Texas A&M is like China - Big, powerful, and rival of Texas (USA). They live in a male dominated society, and thus their women are not allowed to be cheerleaders. Their money and power also make the world go round.

Oklahoma is like Mexico - Having no resources of their own, they have to invade the border of Texas (USA) in order to survive.

Oklahoma State is like Venezuela - There wasn't a whole lot there to start with, but without the oil money they would be nothing there at all.  They have a crazy guy in charge who often shouts nonsense when he speaks.

Baylor is like Israel - A feisty little religious enclave that could not survive without Texas (USA). However, if provoked, they WILL kill you.

Colorado is like Canada - A small, unimportant bastion of liberals who are not very good at anything. Like Canada , they are bad at all sports other than hockey. Like Canada , they produce no GDP.

Nebraska is like Russia - A former super power who frequently stirs up trouble because they still think they are a super power. Nebraska ( Russia ) thinks it is the equal of Texas (USA), and pouts in public when it doesn't get its baby way. When they do not get their way, they take their ball and go home. Go big RED!

Missouri is like Iran and North Korea - a definite member of the axis of evil. Conniving and loyal to no one, you cannot believe anything they say (you can only watch in amazement at what they do). Like Iran and North Korea , they are hated and despised by everyone--even the Swiss.

Iowa State is like Switzerland - Boring, unimportant, not good at much of anything, but neutral and without enemies. Even the Hawkeyes like the Swiss.

Texas Tech is like Australia - Big, dusty, and a Texas version of "down under". Cowboys, like Aussie's, drink a lot of beer and carry weapons.

KU is like France - KU is full of socialists and they think they are better than everyone else. This high opinion of themselves is not shared by anyone else in the world. Like France , KU cannot be trusted or counted on during a time of need.

K-State is like Ireland - A gritty, feisty, over-achieving little country with a large inferiority complex. What they lack in resources, they make up by determination and people. Others can't find them on a map, but they like them because they are fun, friendly, and like to drink beer.

Speak for yourself on B-ball, Ben Ji. I was pretty excited about our prospects for 09-10 after the strong finish to 08-09. I mean, we had Clemente primed and ready to go, as well as 5* Wally Judge and his buddy Rodney McGruder to shore things up. It really was a Sweet 16 or Bust season at the outset, just like 12-13 is.

How did we recover so well from the conference realignment and the whole Prince extra 3 mill deal? :gocho:
