Graduate/Professional Certificates (Don't care if Luked) . . .

Looking at a program through UCLA, possibly Stanford.   I've read what the people trying to "sell" it to me say, but I am wondering about real world career/resume building impact.

I've got 12 hours towards an MBA, but I"m not just not feelin it, and these graduate/professional certificates take 12 months and cost a lot less.

k-state has a business graduate certificate, why settle for Stanford when k-state is available? I don't hire people, but it seems like something people who are too lazy to get the full degree would do

a simple answer to your simple questions is that it really depends on what field/profession you're in.  and what certificates you're talking about.

My company wants me to do the certified project manager stuff.  Wife is doing a certified auditor thing, company pushed and paid.  If YOUR company wants you to do it and will pay for it, then why not?  You're bettering yourself, making yourself more marketable, hopefully outperforming your peers.  The only down side is it might suck really bad.  But you'll probably learn something and learning never sucks that bad.

so you're talking about a technical certs like ITIL, SQMF, CISSP and crap like that?

there's also leadership/development certs specific to your field.  when you go into your senior executive's offices, they'll have leadership/development certifications from fuqua, stanford, and the like sitting around.  those are great but the reason behind getting the two types is different.
