Track staff announced
Tara Davis-Woodhall
Some interesting choices for the staff...
Obviously, Davis-Woodhall is a name and, presumably, she'll be competing for a few more years. Hopefully, she'll lure other elite horizontal jumpers. The throws coach is very good and came from Tennessee (historically, a strong program in throws/multis). The multis/pole vault coach has been at Central Missouri forever, but that's a really good D2 program, so you assume the coaching will translate.
As for the rest of the staff... the distance/CC head coach is pretty young and fairly undistinguished (comes from Belmont). The assistant CC/distance coach was the head coach at Western Illinois - not a great program, but he seemingly was turning things around. The sprints coach was the track strength/conditioning coach at Arkansas (it's happened before, but also not super common to go from a s/c coach to a full-time assistant coach). We stole the jumps coach from KU and he's pretty young, but he's from Jamaica and competed on the international circuit for a while.
All-in-all, this seems to indicate an emphasis on throws/jumps/multis, which I think is a good move for the program.
I'm hopeful/optimistic that we'll be back to consistent top 15-20 finishes at the national meets. Of course, with the recent explosion of available scholarships, the landscape is now going to be very, very different and I have no idea how many scholarships we'll actually offer in any given year. Certainly possible that the marquee programs stockpile a lot of the talent across the board.
