We're up to No. 36 in RPI (up from 44 last week). Cincy is one spot ahead of us at 35 with KU at 34. Arizona and ASU both had big drops last weekend - Zona from 26 to 41 after a baaaaaaad series loss at home to Utah (worst team in the league) and ASU from 39 to 45 after dropping a game at home to Houston.

Considering what's happened to us in the Hughes era (frequently on the bubble and missed the tourney every year except last year), it'd be in our interest to NOT be the last team in the Big 12 in consideration for an at-large (though, a team in the 30s should be safely in). With WVU and the Arizona schools somewhat face-planting in the last few weeks, the "Big 12 sucks" sentiment will receive a boost with only TCU/WVU having chances at top 16 seeds (and hosting a regional).

KU plays at WVU this weekend, we're at Cincy, Arizona's at Houston and ASU is at Okie state. If we can avoid the sweep (tall order given our struggles on the road) and at least 1 of KU/Arizona/ASU drop the series, we should be ahead of at least one of those teams entering the Big 12 tourney.

D1 baseball has us as a two seed in Eugene going into the Big 12 tourney, so we're safely in barring something incredibly bizarre happening.

Oregon would be tough (very good pitching with loads of Ks and not loads of walks; pretty good power hitting team), but they also played a pillow soft non-conference schedule aside from Oregon State (whom they did go 4-0 against in Eugene). They also lost a series to one of the worst P4 teams in the country (Ohio State) and also had some other bad losses for a top 8 NCAA seed.

The Big Ten is only going to get 3-4 teams in this year (Big 12 should get 7-8), so Oregon's record might be inflated a bit, though they did go 5-1 against the other Big Ten teams that will make the tourney (UCLA & USC).

All that said, our starting pitching was absolutely dreadful last weekend (8.3 IP, 16 runs allowed) and if it doesn't get better, it's not going to matter who we play.

PK Park has an interesting history. Next to being home to the Oregon Ducks it has also housed a High A Baseball team in Eugene forever called the Eugene Emeralds who are the San Francisco Giants Affiliate are celebrating their 70th season!

The field dimensions are pretty elementary. 335 to Left, 400 to Center Field and 325 to Right Field! Has pretty offensive friendly wall height at 6.5 foot tall.
Should be a fun park that is a FieldTurf playing surface so the Cats should feel right at home.

While PK is relatively new. Oregon's baseball program was brought back to life by a former AD who felt as if Oregon needed to bring it back. He donated his own salary to build the park in a football stadium overflow parking lot. Now they are back playing varsity baseball after not having a program since 1981

I'll take being in the tourny. wild stuff happens then. Just a little disappointing given how pretty well we started. That being said, if we get in, that's a pretty big accomplishment still for this program given it's all time (or lack thereof) tourny participation.

I still think Hughes is a boob who makes bad baseball choices. But, credit is due - he basically turned over the entire roster this year and is going to make the tourney. For me, that's the baseline - we have program limitations (weather/location/nearby talent pool, etc.) and if we can make NCAAs 3 out of 5 years, that's good enough (though obviously would love to be better).
