the two headed q-tip that is withey/young is so soft in the paint that they find themselves the benefit of calls that really no other team in the league seems to get.
are they the softest that we'll face the rest of the season? i posit that the biggest reason we struggled last night to score in the paint isn't because of the ineffectiveness of our post players, but instead, it was because of the lack of ability by KU's bigs.
when you stop to consider how badly both young and withey were getting abused very early in the game, the result of which was the refs being forced to blow their whistles more than they would have otherwise in an effort to level the playing field. the refs can't call every foul but it's also very inexplicable how badly ku's bigs looked, it makes sense to think that had young/withey been better players, the foul fest would have never originated in the first place and we would have seen a cleaner basketball game.
will we have to deal with this again this year? i can't imagine a softer pair than withey and young.
