I don't know where it's going, but he has more to do as John Snow because he's a Targaryen. (I DON'T KNOW HOW TO rough ridin' SPELL THAT NAME). I think Maester Aemon knew because he told him all his family history and crap. And Jon was like "why'd you tell me all that?" and Aemon was like, "uh, never mind".

He's too important to live as a wolf. But what makes me think he may die is that it will let him out of his Night's Watch oath.

Oh man, that could make sense.  Could by why dumb Ned never would tell anyone about where John was from other than that John was his bastard.  Would make sense if that was his sis's kid and had to hide the fact that John is half targaryn since that would have been right after the revolt and all other targaryn kids were thought to be murdered at that time.  Keep lil sis's kid safe by claiming him as Dumb Ned's own.  Man. 

I just moved on to other books and didn't take the time to think through much stuff like this.

But my wife caught that he was a targeryn during the first book, because he has purple eyes. I was like, "HOLY crap, YOU MAY BE RIGHT".

I didn't catch the purp eyes thing in the first book.  But that pretty much guarantees it.  the only time he takes time to make mention of purple eyes is for the targaryns themselves or those who are related.

And they always said that Arya looks like Lyanna; and Arya and Jon look alike.
