KU can't score this year.  I don't think we're looking at the typical big deficit at the start of the game.

Dribble penetration (especially by Tyshawn) seemed to be out undoing at the begining of the games in AFH.  Between EJ's down confidence and the half step he seems to have lost and considering the Weber does not demand the same ball pressure/wing denial as Frank does we should be better suited to keep it close early.  I wanted Frank to play the first 2 or 3 poss in zone, just to make KU pass the ball a little and let the the crowd settle down in past years.

I don't think we will score much more than the 7 or so points we have average over the first 8 minutes of the past games but hopefully KU will be right down there with us.

Their drop off in Big 12 play this year is pretty dramatic, especially in eFG% and PPP.

The top row is their average in Big 12 games during Self's first 8 seasons, the 2nd row is this year's Big 12 numbers.

Total   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KU 04-12   68.7   1.12   54.5   20.0   36.4   39.4
KU 12-13   65.8   1.00   47.3   20.6   35.0   47.1

I see KU at +50% FG and +35% 3PT.  They've had some marginal games.  But this is KSU @ Allen.  This won't be a marginal KU performance.  Throw the refs in on the action, and we'll be down 10 in the first 8 minutes.

I hope I'm wrong.  But, everybody who's not Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) knows I'm right.

In our first matchup, we had 9 points from our bigs.  Somebody explain to me why this number increases dramatically at AFH?

Listening to 810's recap of the coaches cc and oscar just mentioned they went up to Lawrence last night.  I don't believe it is typical for KU or KSU to spend the night for these games, especially a night game, anybody recall differently?

They spent the night there every year except for last year. Last year they had a police escort the day of.

I'll concede that its only a 4 game stretch, but Gip is playing the best basketball of his career. The biggest question is if he'll be able to stay out of foul trouble.

12.8 PPG. .616 FGs and .750 FTs. FT rate of 35%. 2+ Oboards and 3 Dboards per. And no game with more than 3 fouls.

IMO, this game comes down to Withey.  If he shows up, normal things happen.  If not, we own their asses in an embarrassing fashion.

Since we are their Super Bowl, KU will hit some ridiculous ISU-esque threes to the tune of 23/30 (made/attempted). We make 0/13 at half and 4/28 for the game because of basketball reasons.  :barf:

Gip has played great against guys who are 6'6 - 6'8.  See ISU, OU, Tech.  Or against guys who are compete puds.  See UT.  Withey is 7'0 and plays 33 mpg.  He just doesn't match-up well.

I'm not concerned with KU's offense, per se.  I think they'll score better than they have in the last 3 games, though.  I'm concerned that our offense will look like it did in Manhattan - basically relying on the 3 ball because we get no post production and Withey clogs up the paint.

If somebody can tell me how we get 15+ pts out of Gip and JO, I'll be more at ease.

How many times have we won at AFH the last 25 years? How many times have we beaten KU in the last 25 years, period? No difference in talent can totally explain that. It's a mental thing, further evidenced by how deep we dig a hole at the beginning of each of these games. To say "we'll be all right if we can just keep it close in the first half" is worth about as much as "we'll be all right if we can just finish the game with more points."

This is the most vulnerable KU team in a long while - just not for K-State. The only question is whether the loss tonight is also gonna eff us for Baylor. Hope not.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

I hate to tell you, but Dramane (or Sky Thomas) ain't walking through that door.

Nor is the leading scorer for the Cats that afternoon... but both he and Sky (and Meriemaweather) were at the OOD Saturday to watch the Cats beat ISU.
