And when I went to Seattle I thought of it as a clean green San Francisco but it's been a while

I really enjoyed my trip, thanks for the tips, but my god, you guys deserve an award on being able to live out there. It’s by far my favorite state in the US, but Christ, that cost of living…

Wouldn’t you know it, another poop related thing. Just goes hand in hand with San Fransico.

self-immolation is particularly sad

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

(some) schools in sf haven't been able to keep the heat on.  partly because they can't hire hvac workers and partly because they can't buy products from half the country.

i think at least a bit of the problem is that they don't understand that they're a small city.  like, california has 40m people.  if california decides it will only allow cars that meet certain emissions standards to be sold, most automakers will just adopt those standards rather than lose the market.  but sf is barely larger than fresno.  if they decide they don't want to buy anything from whatever rando state, no one cares.

Where were those tweets when the Brookline, MA store closed a year ago?

That said it's just a weird neighborhood and has been for years. The city gave too many incentives to tech companies to move offices there that are now empty. I used to go to one on fourth Street about a mile away that was also in a pretty shitty neighborhood but there was way more housing nearby and it's still open. There's a Costco less than a mile away.

I guess I don't get why people act like this is new? It's been incredibly wealthy with people doing drugs in the streets at all hours of the day in certain neighborhoods for a long-ass time, long before Chesa Boudin or whoever is getting blamed for things like this.

Yes but why are people like Zaid Jilani commenting with surprise now when things like this happen

Its interesting. I just had this conversation with my brother. He's a bit of a Fox News dummy and was talking about all of the crime. I told him he was a dumbass. I love cities and I brought up the point that statistically crime is down in most places. I used to travel for work a ton 8-10 years ago and I would always have drinks, dinner, more drinks and just explore cities. I saw some shady crap, but I rarely felt unsafe. If I did, I bailed pretty quick. I'd be willing to bet that the crime was prob higher in a lot of the major cities when i was walking around all of the Occupy Wall Street campsites talking to those lunatics than if I were to do it today.

And the thing about the Mission is that their are rough ridin' crazy crackheads roaming the streets 24-7 (in front of nice restaurants). I know people that live in Oakland that tell me the only time they've felt nervous in the entire Bay Area was in the Mission.

and the tenderloin was always worse than the mission!

i don't think they are commenting with surprise.  i think they are commenting with satisfaction that their preexisting beliefs are being gratified with confirmatory evidence (which is the same reason that i then posted his tweet here).
