Guess the largest upset in the history of the RPI?

It was TCU vs KU.

The largest ever.  Can you believe that?  HISTORY!

That seems like something that people should be talking about, right?  HISTORY!

Losing to TCU was literally the worst loss in modern college basketball history (the "RPI Era").  It could be THE worst loss in the history of all of college basketball.

I think it's a bigger upset. It's not like TCU could go win a shitty basketball conference to get a 16 seed.

A #1 losing to a #16 isn't even close as bad....the disparity in RPI is a fraction of what it is between KU and TCU.  The disparity was over 230 in this case.

I'd say it compares pretty well to a 1 vs. 16 about a decade ago, the 15s and 16s now are much better than they used to be. Of course this doesn't count the 13-17 MEAC or SWAC team that seems to get in every other year, TCU is better than these teams. Last seasons Norfolk State team is better than this TCU team IMO.

Perhaps, but a 16 has never beaten a 1, so that's out the window.

KU was only -20 so while its a huge upset in terms of RPI, its not even close when considering the spread. Most #1 vs #16 games are 20-30+ point favorites

According to the Bracket Project the current 16 seeds if the tournament were held today and the first place teams won the conference tournaments the 16s would be as follows, with RPI in parentheses

Bryant (138)
Southern (194)
Norfolk State (198)
Charleston Southern (183)

I do think TCU is better than all of these teams, barely.

 Norfolk State +21.5 over Missouri 86-84 in 2012
 Santa Clara +19.5 over Arizona 64–61 in 1993
 Coppin State +18.5 over South Carolina 78–65 in 1997
 Hampton +17.5 over Iowa State 58–57 in 2001
