My life as a K-State fan has been spent watching guard play at its best come from combo guards; Anthony Beane, Elliot Hatcher, Larry Reid, Denis Clemente, and Jacob Pullen. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. But I've always really enjoyed true creators, ARTists with the basketball in their hands. That's not to say that the aforementioned guards didn't have moments, nor does it mean that Angel can't score, but in many ways he's more of a creator point than any of those other guys. Now that we're seeing him really come into his own in that role, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. In many ways McGruder is still the leader and main option on this team, but Angel has quickly become 1b to Rod's 1a and is making a legitimate run to be an all league player.

On both ends of the night the Cats just made Texas look silly. On a night when McGruder goes out of the game with 18 minutes left in the first half, K-State rolled anyway, led not only by Angel's excellent PG play, but also finally a big game from Gip and a surprise night from Omari. It was sparked on both ends; 52.4% shooting against UT is no small feat and the 2nd best against UT all year. But the Cats also turned UT over on nearly 40% of their possessions in the first half, destroyed UT on the boards with a refreshing 40% OR%, and held UT under 44% shooting.

A much needed dominating win for this team. Very enjoyable.

So many things to like =
1.29 ppp
52.4 FG%
40 OR%
9.3 TO%
43.5 Def FG%
27.9 Def TO%

21/6 Ast/To ratio
17-21 FT shooting

Even the JV came in at the end and played well

Think of how many fanbases out there don't have a single ksu_FAN or Powercat Posse. We get to have 2.

I took a quick look, and i think that the 1.29ppp was our 3rd best in the last 5 big 12 seasons.  Got 1.34 vs TTech in 2011 and 1.30 vs OU in 2010

And no surprise really, but our 9.2 TO% is the best in these last 5 Big 12 seasons.  We actually did have a 7.8 in the Big 12 title game vs KU few years ago ( I was counting reg season games only)

Think of how many fanbases out there don't have a single ksu_FAN or Powercat Posse. We get to have 2.

FAN is the true stat stud of this board.  His charts and grids are flat out amazing.   I just try to build on what he has established and toss my stuff in there

it was a really sloppy game too.  weber deserves a lot of credit for improving the to% over previous seasons.

I just slingboxed the game during lunch and then came right here for the adv stats thread.

The credit goes to this board, because we actually have a significant number of fans that have made an effort to understand advanced stats and they also understand that tempo free stats give a much more accurate representation of what is going on in the game and a better basis for quality analysis.

I think so, he's an experience player that can really get to the rim and draw fouls. Last year he wasn't a completely efficient offensive player, but had a very good assist rate (32.5%) and ridiculous FT rate (73.2%).

Felix had moments, but is very inconsistent and I thought Holland was just a terrible player, completely out of control and no idea what to do with the ball in his hands.

They are really hurting at the PG spot, but I'm amazed they don't have better offensive players.

maybe a game or two but they have issues all over the floor on both ends, they still wouldn't be a tournament team

Isn’t this inherent in his offensive philosophy?  Less risk (i.e. forcing it to the rim) = less turnovers?

How did we hold KU (possibly the best transition team in the country) to so few transition points while giving up so many to other teams?

While I've documented how much I hate attributing things to effort, I think transition D is largely effort. I will say that out outright foot speed seems to be very poor, that doesn't excuse Texas' subpar athletes looking like the Jamaican 4x100 team last night.

We outscored them in transition 11-10, though when we get beat we are beat badly. And often after a make.
