there was a massive student walkout in protest the year before i got to my high school, so the next year (when i got there) we had it off.

and CNS, i could completely see even a majority of kansas high schools not having any black students for 10 year stretches.

Darting and Brown used to go off about that, because those "kids" just wanted the day off to have the day off..

I feel the same way about Thanksgiving. Just a bunch of freeloading punk kids getting together to get the day off.

Texas has Confederate Heroes Day on Jan 19 that some workplaces (mostly government) close for.  Not sure how the date was chosen but always seemed awkwardly close to MLK.  Glad I don't live in racist Texas anymore.

Awkwardly close? Correct me if I'm wrong but that could potentially be on MLK Jr day since MLK day is always on the third Monday in January...

Yes.

I've been in Texas for 15 years and while I've heard of Confederate Heroes Day I don't recall any type of actual celebration or recognition of it.
