Am actually without a job right now.  I mean I'm still employed, but like they shut down my team and all our activities.  Was like super forward looking type stuff.  Anyway they want to keep all of us and our salaries are funded through 2013 so we're interviewing within the company.  Feels weird because I come to work and have finished all my project shutdown activities so I just BBS a lot.  I need something to do.

win/win/win/win/win

Got laid off 3 weeks into my first job after college along with 2299 other souls. Not going to name names though. Hawker Beechcraft

I had a friend that did that, although he was laid off even before his start date, but well after he accepted a job offer.

I was a part of the last group in. We had to wait in the lobby forever the first day because we later found out they were deciding whether to bring us on board or just turn us back around that first day.

Was there a long period between when you were hired and when you actually started or something? Laying somebody off immediately after hiring them seems pretty crappy.

a few months. This was right in the middle of the 2008 crash. Horrible, horrible timing.

Had a buddy who graduated in 09 with a mechE degree, took a job offer in vegas early in his last semester. He had an apartment rented and everything, 1 week before he was going to drive out there they called him up and told him there was no job offer anymore...

I was laid off from my first job back in high school.  I was a lot attendant at a Chevy dealership.  It wasn't that big of a deal because I would have had to quit a couple months after they laid me off due to relocation to Kansas.  Kinda irritated me at first because several of my friends bought their first cars from the used car lot there solely because I recommended it, earning the dealership way more than they would have needed to pay my minimum wage, but when I got my severance check of $75 in the mail a couple weeks later it was all good.

This happened in early June of 2008, when gas prices were nearing $5/gallon where I lived in California and shortly before the GM bailouts.  It was a large dealership and they laid off about 1/5 of the entire staff.

My company has closed up half their campuses (layoffs too), put a hiring freeze across the board, and heismaned any promotional opportunites. I'd say i'm in good hands at the moment. I feel your pain, bud.

Don't forget being put on notice by the higher learning commission.

I would LOVE to get laid off. Unemployment is like eight million years right now, and they keep extending it.

You must make jack crap.  Unemployment would pay a fraction of what I spend.  I would be very, very unhappy on unemployment.

It's 3/4 of what you make, right? Between that and my trust fund, I'd be fine. AND I wouldn't have to work.

I started a new job today. There is actually a goEMAW member that works here (and posts from work...), but he doesn't know I work here, yet. I plan on messing with him.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

I don't really have a trust fund. But I do have a pretty good size savings account, and if I got laid off I would have time and a steady, though smaller, income to figure out what I want to do. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. (Also, still not a sock.)

guess you just threw us for a curveball when you said you want to be laid off, most sane adults hope to keep their jobs, not hard to understand
