Man, I can't even imagine working for a company that fires people for reasons other than your individual work performance.

No meltdowns. The guy most likely to have melted down was actually very calm about it.

That is because he has an AR-15 in his trunk.  Hope you make it out alive.

We were bought out by a huge company and it created a bit of duplication of some services.

I would LOVE to get laid off. Unemployment is like eight million years right now, and they keep extending it.

He rode the train today. Hopefully I'll be off work before he makes it back in his car. :)

My company has closed up half their campuses (layoffs too), put a hiring freeze across the board, and heismaned any promotional opportunites. I'd say i'm in good hands at the moment. I feel your pain, bud.

By the time they finish extending it, I may be old enough to start collecting SS. Of course, I guess that means I'll make less in SS... :dunno: BTW, I can work side jobs for cash and/or go get my master's while on unemployment.

If you get caught working side jobs while collecting unemployment, you get to pay back your entire unemployment benefit and then go to prison. Good luck with that.

I survived something like 4 rounds of layoffs in 4 years at my last job. I remember one time they announced the layoffs and one of the guys they laid off was just out visiting another factory like he often did, and they had to like track him down to fire him. Was kind of funny.

We were bought out by a huge company and it created a bit of duplication of some services.

Similar scenario happen at my big bro's place of employment.  After limping through one year the company is rehiring the the employees.  The service they thought was covered couldn't replicate what the laid off employees were doing.   Classic case of management looking only at dollars and not the end result.  They are paying the returning workers quite a bit more than they originally were making.

I've survived several rounds. Things are on the up and up now, though. Have hired quite a few people.

Am actually without a job right now.  I mean I'm still employed, but like they shut down my team and all our activities.  Was like super forward looking type stuff.  Anyway they want to keep all of us and our salaries are funded through 2013 so we're interviewing within the company.  Feels weird because I come to work and have finished all my project shutdown activities so I just BBS a lot.  I need something to do.
