Hate them for restaurants, nothing makes you look more poor than using a gift card/coupon for food. I like it when I get a gift card to a clothing store, when the alternative would be having that person pick out an article of their choosing.

used to feel that way, but feel differently now.

when I say I like gift cards I mean good ones, not $25 to chili's or something. I mean like $200 to Michael Smith. makes you look pretty elite when you can hand the waiter a GC for a $150 tab and have it be covered. makes them wonder who you know that would give such an elite gift. luckily I know lots of people that give me elite gifts.

i'm with kitten mittons on this one.  hate that feeling, "i wouldn't be here if uncle bob hadn't bought us this real nice gift card, sure is nice to visit your fine restaurant, do you have toothpicks?"

I would much rather get money than a gift card, regardless of what the card is for.

Gift cards are the best when you can rape the Target / AMEX SBS system and get them cheap.

I used to have this mentality but I just end up spending the money on bills or putting it in my savings account. With a gift card I'm forced to buy something fun.

Gift cards are complete garbage gifts.  If you're going to give me money, then rough ridin' give me money.

Pud gift-giver: "Hey here's a gift. I'm choosing where you'll have to eat a meal without consulting you. I'm using my gift as a way to passive-aggressively boss you. Cheers!"
Me: "eff you."

What if they specifically bought you a gift card to a place they know you like?

i never use them.  if you don't know me well enough to give me a present that isn't a giftcard or straight cash, then don't bother.  gift giving in general is pretty dumb.

Man, all I get from santa these days is giftcards. Normally santa brings the good stuff like blue moose, chipolte, taco via etc....not so much this year.

Got TONS of olive garden giftcards along with some applebees BWW and jason deli.

I will be having all you can eat soup salad and breadsticks for lunch at least once a week for the next couple months.

Just think of the number of "now half price late night apps" he gave away?

Also, they are experimenting with a new Applebee's express concept, it's like a fast food version of Applebee's...strikes me as similar to Panera.
