KU -10.5 to Baylor  What do we know about the Big 12?
« on: January 14, 2013, 08:43:59 AM »
KU is, once again, in a league of their own in this conference. Sucks to be them...very little prep for the post season.

But, this will be fun for us!  How will the 2-5 log jam sort out????

OU - Best wins so far in league play

KSU - Same wins as OU, but less impressive

BU - Since UT has been proven to be bad, BU has beat no one yet

ISU - Pretty loss at KU maybe makes  us over value them?

OSU - Young studs who likely improve as year goes on?

The rest is pure poop.  Also, how the eff does Barnes keep his job?

ISU isn't a very good basketball team.  we put too much value on them early on.  they'll win some games when their 3's are falling but i think they end up around 6 or 7, in front of TCU, Tech, WVU, and UT.

BU is better than they've played so far.  i don't expect them to win tonight but should play for 2nd in the conference based on talent alone.

Our Florida win is > than anything OU has done, and we have better losses.

Baylor's talent alone ought to get them to second, but I don't think they can overcome the huge handicap of Drew. They'll drop too many games they should win along the way.

It's between Cats and OU. Okie State will implode as season goes on and Ford's position becomes untenable.

Regarding OU, and I haven't watched them, aren't their common opponent wins more impressive than ours?

Is it safe to assume that we will battle them for 3 in the conference?  Or still too early to even speculate?

Also, it's fun to think about "no Wednesdays" this early in the year!!!

These dudes kinda scare me.  Those young guys might figure it out in Feb., and be pretty tough.

They only need two things to work out to go on an absolute tear: 1. smart doesn't hit the frosh wall, 2. Nash gets his head out of his ass.

It makes me sick that Ford has nice things.

Meh on common opponents/comparative scores. That evens out. They also lost to Stephen F Austin at home. They are actually a very similar team to us though, it will be interesting to play them.

I'm hopeful we won't get swept by OU AND ISU like last year.

I think 2nd in the league is definitely up for grabs and achievable for this team. But so is 5th.

Bob will find a way to get to fifth, his talent is close, enough to the OUs and ISUs.  I am excited to se who's season really falls apart, hopefully it happens to Ford.

Ya, that's the funny part...there are 5 teams who are capable of finishing 5th, and who would all be furious finishing 5th.

Totally agree...it's a more clear restatement of "No Wednesdays."

we better not be playing wednesday this year, woof.  i think it's safe to assume that 3rd will be either us or OU since we already beat OSU on their home court and ISU is a joke of a team and poorly coached

clams, I understand your ISU issues and the reliance on the 3PT shot will hurt them in some games. But they play pretty good defense and surprisingly they're one of the best rebounding teams in the league, including on oboards. I think their style where anyone and everyone will shoot a 3 combined with their pace of play make them a tough match-up. The Mayor could surprise again, I don't think its out of the question.

i just think their offense is too high risk to think they'll be able to rely on it, game in and game out, in the b12.  no doubt that they'll have nights, like they did against KU, where everything is dropping.  at home i think they'll be tough for everyone in the league minus maybe baylor who wins all the match ups against them.

ku shot over 42% from three that game. isu shot 37%. i don't think i'd say "everything was dropping" for isu in that game. it wouldn't shock me if isu finished 4th or 5th in the league.

Fair point, but I do think if they continue to rebound nearly 40% of their misses they have a shot to overcome a bad 3PT night to an extent.

Their losses to UNLV and Cinci both featured <30% 3PT shooting nights.

thanks for the clarification on the everything is dropping against ku. isu lost the game, they shoot poorly.   that's my point.

We have ourselves a good old fashioned Big 12 basketball round table analysis with no butt hurtings, going on here!

Wish Beems were here.

Next topic, but related:  Which team should be the most pissed if they finish less than fourth?

In order of most pissed, I go with:

Baylor (most talent)
KSU (have a super star senior)
Texas (talent despite Bongo's stuff, they should NEVER be less than 4)
OU (good start to season)
ISU
OSU (easier to excuse early season struggles with young guys)
WVU (knew they'd be down, but still...)

ISU is happy with mediocrity.  They could live with 5th and would be perpetually happy on the NCAA bubble.

I'd move OSU up that list, probably 2nd behind Baylor.

They have a lottery pick that is better than our super star senior. Not quite as good, but similar to Beasley. JMHO. Then they also have Brown and Nash, though Nash is a lazy player who underachieves. Otherwise I agree.
