Shanetastic; WVU ADV

Opp   61   1.06   55.3%   23.1%   32.1%   46.8%

Weird shooting first half by both teams, the grinder 2nd half we expected, WVU almost uses Oboarding late to beat us. Oh, and a 22-12 advantage for WVU in foul calls.

Great win, Angel and Shane step up down the stretch as Rod misses shots. A balanced team where multiple guys can make game winning plays. Really good win for the Cats.

And JO should ask Shane for advice on defending the rim. JO has been great, but lately he's been letting penetrators get into his body, thus foul calls. Shane was perfect on the last drive keeping separation and timing the block.

Really nice win.

2-0 in conference feels good.

Not a bad 2-0 either, considering where I'd rank difficulty in conference games (I do not respect Tech or TCU)

Shane should get a gold freaking star for his defense on that final drive.  Fantastic effort by him.

Absolute pathetic play on defense the first 22 minutes.     The last 18 minutes (except for allowing 9 off rebounds 2nd hf) was better
Last 28 poss.  WV was 9-25 and had 8 TOs.... so 38 eFG% and 28.6 TO% from the D in the final 18 minutes

Shane and Angel scored the final 11 points (Shane was so  at the FT late)

Refs did not do us any favors with the total foul count being 22-12 and at one point it was a 17-6 adv for wV

Our backcourt was 1-11 in the 1st hf vs OKSt and only were down 2..... and still won
We let WV shoot 65% and we had 9 TOs in the first half today and we were up 3..... and still won

I have a hard time characterizing this team.  Like, I wouldn't call them tough but they certainly are not soft, they aren't really skilled but they do somethings well enough, defense isn't suffocating but it's always right there.  I dunno.  This win surprised me.

Agree with FAN that JO has to do a better job at staying out of foul trouble.  Besides letting his guy get to close to his body, he has to get those long arms up straight and make the dude shoot over him

It would have been very disappointing to shoot 57.1 eFG% and lose this game.

Nino's drive to the bucket to put us up 54-53 i thought was a big FG.   We had only scored 4 pts in the last 7:40 and had seen our 7 pt lead turn into a 1 pt defecit before that basket.   Then a struggling Angel hit a big 3

Was with you until you said, Jo has been great

I meant that at least at times in his career he has been great at defending the rim, blocking shots, and not letting offensive players get into his body to draw fouls. Lately he has struggled with that.

_FAN the circumstance of Shane's block on that last shot should be considered when comparing it to JO.  I doubt that guard would have attempted to go into JOs body in that instance, he was just trying to get something up.

That's fair, but I give Shane a bit of credit for handling a driver and then timing his jump while not drawing contact. And Shane is simply a much more fluid athlete that JO, so that's a bit unfair to JO as well. Still, JO seems to have been letting people get into him more than he did last year; he's drawing nearly 1 more foul per 40 than last year.

Agree on all.  The defensive philosophy contributes to this a bit, the help locations and principles are different.
