Somebody buy McCarron's girlfriend a foot-long Polish sausage. We're gonna need something exciting to watch in the 2nd half.

I was just talking about this with my friend. It definitely won't stop them from claiming it and putting it on their stadium

What a terrible ending to a terrible series of bowl games, every BCS bowl game was stupid, ugly, lame and smelled awful.

The flaccid "playoff" will not make it any better, the long layoff between the end of the regular season and the BCS bowl games is idiotic.

Just a horrible format to bring the best college sport (regular season) to an end with a whimper, yawn and a fart.

Nothing says marketing genius like a huge layoff between the regular season and the "championship" which is played as the most popular sport in the United States (from a consumer standpoint) cranks up its playoffs.   Just brilliant strategy there . . . only taking a backseat to the MLB idocy of possibly having the final game of its championship series in November just as the majority of the sporting consumers are turning their full attention to football.

Saban = GCFBCOAT?

It's really tough to argue this, although past coaches didn't have the luxury of the BCS to prove themselves, and I'm not exactly racking my brain to think of other possibilities.

Significant IMO to do it at 2 schools. In the last 8 seasons he's coached college football he's won 4 national titles. Ridiculous.

He's one of, what, four coaches ever to have at least 4 nat'l championships?  And the only two that have more than four (Bear and Fielding Yost each had six) did it over a span of like 20 years.  He's got four in less than half that time, at two different schools nonetheless.

i'm sure this is a really stupid take but-

i don't think you can compare Saban to anyone outside of recent history.  he's benefitting from the consolidation of talent at big programs like alabama.  just like urban meyer has at florida and will continue to do at osu, etc.

in the present era with so much focus on the game and the talent within it, it's much easier to build these dynasties.

i'm saying in the future we'll see more of this.  bama will cool, osu will take over, then usc, then texas, then bama, they'll just play hot potato.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Yeah, because bear bryant/tom osbourne/every coach before 1994 did not benefit from being able to have a 120 man roster and no scholarship limitations.

Boy do I like Nick Saban.  He wins more than Calipari, but he's a total aloof prick about it not some jabber-jawed schmoozer phony.  So great.
