i think you're probably right. Self is the exception, i'd imagine in part because he is amazing at drawing up plays in tight late game situations, and more often than not has better players to execute them.

Maybe because he's playing from ahead more often? But I think the formula mostly accounts for it with efficiency. Still has been close to the 300s

I think our luck metric is probably as good as it is because the team has shown some drastic improvement over the course of the season and started hitting its stride right when Big 12 play started.

feels weird
I know an elite ranking is what our record calls for but I makes me uneasy. Would rather quietly hang out in the 10 -15 range, rip thru Big 12 tourney and sneak onto the 1 or 2 line for the Big Dance.

I'm glad we have Coach Tang to lead the Wildcat people through the pressure of these stratospheric rankings.
Expect to win, dude. The higher ranking is great for recruiting and fuels media attention, which builds even more recruiting momentum.

In case anyone was curious about him not penalizing Alabama while punishing Iowa State and UT, even though Alabama had far and away the worst loss of the three.
Quote
Four teams ranked in the top five of Saturday morning's CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 played on Saturday. Three of them lost -- all on the road in what was the final year of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Home teams went 8-2 in the event to underline just how difficult it can be to win on the road in either league.

One of the top-five teams that lost was Alabama.

The Crimson Tide got smacked at Oklahoma, 93-69, so you might be wondering why Alabama remains No. 2 in Sunday morning's updated Top 25 And 1 daily college basketball rankings. Fair question. The answer is that I simply do not believe anybody other than No. 1 Purdue has a better body of work than Alabama even after that 24-point loss to the Sooners. The Crimson Tide are still 18-3 overall, including 8-0 in the SEC, with a 6-3 record in Quadrant 1 and zero losses outside of the first quadrant. Literally every school in the country besides Purdue either has fewer Quadrant-1 wins than Alabama and/or more Quad 1 losses than Alabama and/or more losses outside of the first quadrant than Alabama.

Most have all three.

Yup agreed, I also suspect when the actual ranking to come out for us to not move at all.

Looks like Pullens junior and senior year we made appearances in the top 5 at various stages of the season. Oh man was that when Kyrie torched us at the sprint center?

Let's all take a moment to acknowledge that before the season if you told us that we'd be pissed at being ranked 7th we would have blown our rough ridin' minds.

I don’t watch any non big 12 basketball so it’s hard for me to know which team to be pissed off at being in front of us.  Purdue I think is probably the clear cut front runner for the overall #1 seed but I’d listen to an argument for why #2-6 shouldn’t be ahead of the cats.
