I gotta admit I can’t say I necessarily disagree with a 4 seed projection but I’m not sure what exactly is holding the Cats back other than the reputation we started with at the beginning of the year. Our resume is pretty incredible at the moment.

Our net ranking is 15, kenpom is 26. The pollsters like us a lot better than the computers do.
Is there a last season bias for those computer metrics? Or do they just not take into account love and passion for the game?

kenpom has preseason priors that fade away as the season progresses. probably not fast enough imo

Also, computers generally don’t respond as well to close and OT wins as pollsters; excluding the reputable Colley Matrix https://www.colleyrankings.com/hcurrank.html
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Yes for KP as mocat already said, no for the net rating

I think the colley matrix is interesting but, unlike football, is functionally useless for basketball because we know the actual criteria selection the tools used during that selection and the colley matrix isn't one of those.

AFAIK the NET doesn’t though, that 15 is a tough pill to swallow.

Is that just a function of weak non conference or do we need to be blowing out more teams?

We played a lot of close games against the weak nonconference.

Yeah, I just like it and promote it as much as possible.

Yeah, a 15 net at this point is really good, it's not likely to get worse. There are some teams in front of us like St. Mary's and Florida Atlantic, who have no shot at staying as high as they are.

think of kenpom as predictive based on off/def efficiency, and NET as a résumé of previous W/L results, which are not predictive.

it makes total sense that we'd be lower in kenpom (a turd of a noncon, winning lots of very close games, not competitive in losses) than NET (sparkling overall and quad 1 W/L records, no quad 3/4 losses).

the only comfortable win we had against a real team was at texas, and kenpom jumped us from #45 to #29 after that game.

Looks like we're the finger cuff in the suspect and streaky love triangle.

What an absolutely terrible article. K-State is pretty easily a top 20 all time program. Why does our fanbase always need to be some type of underdog program in football and/or basketball?
Ned is Wooly brained. There are plenty of other people that think like this. Chignon wrote essays on the mentality of this part of the fan base.

Our riches overflow like rivers of living water. From realm to realm throughout the Big 12, the riches permeate and nourish each of our lands for a bountiful harvest!

Number 5 in the ESPN Power Rankings.  KU is number 6, which is very good for them considering KU's troubling struggles of late.

I have no expectation that the AP voters will be quite so generous with their riches, but I'm hopeful that we'll be able to jump three teams into the top 10.  Only five of the twelve teams ahead of us made it through the week unscathed, so there's going to be a lot of shuffling at the top.  I predict we're passing ISU, Xavier, and Gonzaga, with Texas, UCLA, and KU staying ahead of us.
