Interesting story from the Star today about a Topeka kid who's gone from not playing bball his sophomore year to 10+ d1 offers (including Oklahoma), to reclassifying to 2024 to try and receive more offers after playing the AAU circuit to potentially reclassifying back to 2023 to just get his college career started. Probably not a fit for our new regime, but he's currently a fringe top 150 player for the 2024 class.

We gotta get used to this, in football and basketball. It's only a sign that the coaches are really good evaluators, to me that's a great thing. He already has a Duke offer, that's every bit the threat, if not moreso that the Kentucky offer is.

yes, I agree. Good sign about talent evaluation. Not so good of a sign of us landing him though. If we beat out that list, full on whipping dicks out moment.

We were his first offer and they've been very selective with offers. I don't think they offer this kid if they didn't think he was good. I'm sure Jareem and the other coaches know tons of family members of high schools basketball players that they don't offer scholarships to.

Honestly, if we still have 2 spots open in a month, I'd be ok with taking a flier on him. Obviously not expecting him to contribute this year.

Save the last spot if a grad transfer comes into play (Think the rules allow them to still come available well into Sept.?)

Supposedly they turned away top 100 2023 HS recruits to keep spots open for transfers but I don't think things went to plan so who knows what they will do.
