I'm heading to Baldwin City for Christmas and I am convinced that either Gardner, Edgerton, or both could be the 2nd worst town in Kansas. Thoughts?

Proximity to JoCo retail services would appear to take them out of contention.  Parsons, Riverton, Baxter Springs et al only have remote access to the greater Joplin metro area.

Bender's way station was just outside present day Cherryvale, KS.  Apparently, male travelers throbbing over Kate Bender were the victims.

Growing up in JOCO my next door neighbors had a kid(TJ) my exact same age, we were BFF's up until middle school (They also had a another boy that was the same age as my little brother). After all the kids graduated high school they moved out to SE Kansas, closest town is Parsons.

I really want to find an excuse to go down an visit them just to see what parsons is really like.

The strip pits have some truly lunker bass, biggest in the state aside from private pond fish.

Also I've been too harsh on Parsons.  The town has a pretty interesting history with the now defunct MKT railroad.  There were some ambitious business men living around Parsons back then.  They just need something to bring jobs back to the area.  I drove around town looking for christmas lights the last time we were there and there are a ton of huge old houses around town.  There was definitely a lot of money flowing through that place once upon a time.  Sad to see all that beautiful architecture slowly decay and fade away.

This would have been a big deal to me 10-15 years ago, but I buy just about everything I want online now, anyway.

The strip pits are a fantastic place to camp for a few days.  Went there back in October and had a great time.
