the jet
« on: December 11, 2012, 08:07:39 AM »
would kstate be a better team with him this year? why did he leave, his choice or did he have to in order to make room for orris? is orris hurt also? he hasn't played in any of the games that i've been able to watch (michigan, gw). what's his game like? can he help us this year? seems like we could really use a hot hand shooter type off the bench. a vinnie johnson microwave if you will. can orris be this guy?

I think we are redshirting Orris. He played a few minutes in the Washburn game and looked awful. I just wanted to punch him in the face for taking the Jet's spot, but really, the punch should be directed for oscar. All Orris really did was want to be a wildcat, after all.

no way orris gets redshirted. i don't think that even happens in college basketball anymore. when was the last cat to get redshirted as a frosh? joe leonard?

injured. not the same. did not think someone would try to pull this one out though. good job nk. also, are they seriously considering red shirting him or are you guys yanking my chain?

also, any thoughts on my original questions which were mainly- would the team be better with jones/would he be able to supply something that this team needs/is missing? why is he not here?

When he was an Illinois commit, none of the apologists ever touted him as a good three-point shooter.  Heady, scrappy, high BBIQ, hard worker, glue guy?  Yeah.  Marksman?  No. :dunno:

The Jones question is a good one and I have no idea why he left.

Orris can't redshirt now. I think he could give us some depth eventually, we'll see.

I am assuming the same rational was used to run The Jet as was being used when we stopped recruiting Gray.  I don't know what that rational is/was, but both are bad mistakes that involve us not having guard depth.

I think he didn't fit, which usually happens with a new coaching staff. It would've been nice to keep him, but he's not a difference maker to me on this team.

My hope is for Orris to develop into a Tay type role. Different skill set, but sort of a combo reserve guard, decent defender, and a guy you trust off the bench.

I would be pretty glad if Orris ever gets to the state where he's not worse than Frank's walk ons. I don't see that happening this year, but if he puts in a ton of work, maybe by his senior year. :dunno:

Did Frank have walk-ons?  Merrieweather.  I literally don't remember any others....?

Merriweather was who I was referring to. He also had Potuzak, who to be fair, Orris is already slightly better than.

I don't find it ridiculous to think that Orris might develop into at least a solid bench player at K-State.

I remembered Ojeleye was a walk-on, right?  (Semi )

he was the only player that didn't come back though so i guess i don't get the whole "didn't fit" thing though and how it usually happens with the new coach staff. but i'm guessing that i probably don't really understand what you meant either. probably just that it was a mutual decision.

difference maker probably means different things to different people, but he did seem to produce points when he was allowed to play last year and seems like a puzzle piece that would be nice to have on the team. instant offense/zone buster/whatever you want to call it, it doesn't seem like we have one. idk, i guess he'd probably be good for one more win this year in one of the close games that you think we're going to have. that could come in pretty handy for a team that might be on the bubble.

Because he looked like he didn't belong on the court for Washburn, let alone us. I understand he's a frosh, but come on man. He is never going to be anything for us that can be described as "solid."
