Upstate thoughts
« on: December 02, 2012, 10:23:29 PM »
Crowd was pathetic.  12 points in the first 10.5 min didn't help.  Shane and Jo were sick and injured but that did not stop Shane from standing and doing  oscar impression in the first half.  Did not sit down, when the shot clock got under 15 started doing oscar's hands up routine.  High comedy.  poor lead official janssen had back spasms or something.  Gutsy performance out there.  Was running like an old, clumsy ballerina.

Good to see mcgruder look good.  Will was will. Had a Momentary fit of ragd when oscar praised will, then glanced at the stat sheet and realized will didn't play that well which did not match his eyes and he seed troubled, but probably not troubled enough to ply tay more even though he outshone will.  Angel had a stinker.  Diaz hit a sick baseline j and looked better on ball away from the hoop, but still struggled to defend the rim and board.  Biggest concern for me was defensive rebounding.  We gave up 17 o boards to upstate.  That made me upset.  Still no clue why nino starts.  He is probably the third best big at best.  With Jo out it was fine.
But gip or DJamer should start opposite Jo on a normal day.

it is endlessly worrying that we will face a true roadie  next week.

According to post-game, JO and Shane nursing minor injuries. Angel as well. I too, am concerned about rebounding. There was a point in the first half with Tay in the game that Upsate had trouble getting off a shot, the pressure was smothering, and we got easy buckets to pull comfortbly away. We'll know more about this team, and system, after GW and Zaga.

I am apalled the crowds have been so apathetic. Students and alumni. Our first chance to fill it for a true good test will be our Big 12 home opener hosting OSU on freeking 01-05 at 12:30 for gods sake ! Two days removed from TFB. We'll be lucky to 7000 there based upon attendance thus far.

I thought Omari looked like he was starting to get into the swing of things finally. Seemed like he was playing within the offense, and he can be over aggressive on defense sometimes, but it looks like he could turn into a nice wing defender for us this year. If he could be a solid contributor this year, then it would make me feel a bunch better about our guard depth.

He will not be consistent on either end, but he could potentially have a game where he goes nuts for 15 points or so by hitting some 3's and he can play some tough D when he is focused.  He had a completely LOL worthy foul 90 feet from the basket.

It's ironic to me that the loss of an illiterate coach has caused most of the usual posters on the basketball board to appear illiterate.

fwiw trim, i did NOT hear you during the telecast.  was really hoping your voice would stand out above the 300 people in attendance.

Couldn't yell; I injured my voice box at post-bars breakfast.
