you/they can't tell where you are looking, it pretty much all looks like eye contact unless you are a foot away.

My wife's best friend does this. It is weird; however, I can't confirm that you are weird, as you have always seemed pretty normal.

I dunno, i can tell when someone is looking at a mark on my cheek, then moves to my eyes. It's not usually a big deal, until i was talking to someone who was missing a couple teeth, i couldn't stop looking. They had to have noticed when i went from their teeth(tooth, lol) to their eyes. :ohno:

When talking to a customer my eyes dart around the room and I only make eye contact to emphasize something important.  The person usually locks eyes with me for a split second then they quickly look at something else.  I think it helps the customer feel superior by not making eye contact.   :dunno:

For me, I give eye contact most of the time. Like at work and whatnot. Unless I'm busy. Or theyre an unattractive woman.  My older brother told me at a very young age, "never make eye contact with women you wouldn't eff." I don't know why that stuck with me.

Do gay men never look women in the eye?

This is especially true when you're the listener.  Really throws some people off.  Maybe even more true when it's a small presentation setting.  You catch the speaker's eyes and it totally messes with them.  Like "Eek a connection! What was I saying!?" :runaway:

I always make eye contact. But if someone starts boring me, I'll start to focus on some weird thing about their face and start laughing. It's not good.

Eye-to-eye contact is critical until there is no reason to continue the conversation. Then, repeated and long looks at your watch, followed by looks out the window, should send the "nice to meet you, now GTFO" message. Has worked many times for me. And I am still successful in my business.

I used to watch peoples mouths too, until I too realized it was weird. I stopped. I think the habit started because my hearing wasnt real good as a kid. Wasn't deaf but I was one of those that always had to get more hearing tests than the other kids. Anyway, I look at eyes now. Usually the other persons right eye (canter look at both without shifting eyes). It always makes it awkward when I get my tires rotated as the guy there has an eye that he can't control and is always pointed up and out. It's his right eye and out of habit I look there first and then I realize its messed up so I look at his other eye which is looking at me looking at his weird eye.

Look in the eyes, but periodically look away.  To much staring makes you seem a psycho. Avoiding eye contact maKes you seem weak.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

i usually care a miniature cutout of whoever i'm going to be talking face-to-face with that day, in a manilla folder inside of my briefcase.

when i sit down to talk to the person, i set the cutout on the table in front of me and stare at it (in the face) while i listen to their drivel.  when the person is done talking, i fold up the picture, put it into my back pocket, get up, and walk away.

this is a new conversation type i've developed.

I may have to try this. I suspect it tends to eliminate needless follow-up and questions.
