Landmark night for civil rights
« on: November 07, 2012, 12:24:25 AM »
Grats to Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, & Washington  :D

I'm still not a fan of having civil rights up to popular vote, but tonight I'm a little less cynical.

BTW how could Minnesota vote for this and Michele Bachmann?  Well she'll win an election but may lose her husband.  She may no longer be a beard.

on the flipside, oklahoma has now gotten rid of affirmative action and has decided to dismantle the state department of human services.

I would make fun of Oklahoma if I didn't expect Kansas to follow suit with similar measures soon.

Colorado legalized weed.

I think there's a sizable portion of the Republican Party thinking that this may be the end of the world as we know it.

As long as Barry Obama's name is still on a provision that allows the United States government to indefinitely detain United States Citizens without charge, there is no real gain in civil rights.

Haven't read the law, or lack thereof in CO.  Literally legal like buying a pack of Marlboros now?

It's supposed to be regulated like alcohol. It's still illegal under federal law, though, so we will see how this turns out.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Smokin' herb is not a civil right

Aware.  Just making a comment that it's pretty obvious that this nation is just becoming more tolerant of just about everything.

We are continually becoming more tolerant. Gay marriage and marijuana will be legal in every state in our lifetime, and probably sooner than later now that 2 states have got the ball rolling.

they've shown nothing, under obama or anyone previous, to suggest they won't.

FWIW, if we're going to talk about this here, I'm torn on this issue.  As a true liberal I feel as if we have an obligation to look after each other & I think that marijuana is a gateway drug; moreso than alcohol or tobacco.  Other countries that have much more lenient laws on marijuana don't already have the other inherent drug issues that we have.  Suburbanites are thrilled for the chance to toke up without being bothered, I'm worried about the effect on the inner cities and young people.
