You're lying to yourself if you think attendance last night would have been significantly larger if Frank was still here.  LYING TO YOURSELF.

well, you're lying to yourself if you think it wouldn't have been larger. how much so is semantics until someone posts a figure.

sure, we're a football school.

yep, it was a d2 team.

but the biggest reason for the low turnout is currie/webber.  that really can't be argued.

Don't care what anyone says, I feel bad for the players. I guess no one is arguing that, but that's the only reason I went last night. Poor Angel. :frown:

There's a myriad of junk causing the low attendence. It'll be ok.

There are a lot of contributing factors right now, but I guess we need to define what is "ok" because we're not going to back to Huggins/Martin era attendance anywhere in the near future.  I used to go to those early season Asbury/Woolridge games and what we are seeing now is every bit as bad, if not worse.

Sure, the total lack of support sucks for the players and that's unfortunate, but our athletic department is solely responsible for this problem and they're now going to deal with the consequences at a lot of levels.

Frank absolutely had his flaws, but he was the identity of K-State basketball.  Dude was a rockstar.  You simply don't run off the most popular coach in possibly the history of the basketball program and replace him with a vastly unliked retread and believe that there won't be a significant backlash.  That was a complete public relations nightmare and we're paying the price.  And no person in our administration at a leadership level can be naive enough to think that some lame gimmicks like pizza is going to fix the problem.

This aint comin' back.

You don't replace this...

With this...

...and not not think there are going to be significant negative consequences to fan support and the bottom line.  That's beyond absurd.

yep. also, if the person that is in charge of something shows that they don't care about a certain aspect of what they are in charge of, then nobody else will care either.

like, if my boss comes in an hour late every day and leaves two hours early and nobody says anything to him and he doesn't ever say anything to anyone else when they also show up late and leave early, then everyone is going to start showing up late and leaving early.

when currie showed that he didn't care about basketball by hiring a guy that was 11 games under .500 in conference over the past five years, how could anyone expect the fans to care? it would be absurd to expect them to. fans are just acting appropriately and following the actions of the person leading them.

Wouldn't have mattered to me.  So I'll argue it.

Yes. Gip made me sad this morning. And also madder at Currie for doing this to the players.

Almost no one has good attendance for piddly, early season games.  That's just how basketball is, people.  Now, kick your feet up because you've got the space, chat with your bros because it's not too loud, and enjoy the hell out of it.

i'm betting that most of the players are pretty happy with weber instead of frank though. not hard to read between those lines.

Its fair to say there are lots of factors, including football success. Its fair to say Currie (Weber) is the biggest.

The real issue is not unsold seats, its people just flat not coming. The attendance for all of the games so far is listed at 12K+ for each, so obviously K-State is counting sold seats and not bodies at games.

That said, I think its a bit unfair to Weber to throw him in now. The issues with Weber have been discussed enough and I get that. If you choose to not get seats because of him fine (again, most people obviously haven't). But he isn't really to blame because its not like he hired himself. He's here now and if he's the reason you don't want to come, the real reason is Currie so take all your frustration out on him. For clarification this doesn't mean I'm saying don't make fun of chicken nuggets, pizza, shrillness, etc. that's all fair game and part of the fun, "ya know".

I think its fair to say football success is a big part of people not showing up as well. I'd guess most people who have basketball season tickets also have football and putting in the investment of time, etc for football games and traveling (10K fans to Ft Worth) has taken its toll. Weeknight games against Lamar and a D2 school lag in general, its just going to be magnified even more for many with what they are putting into football right now. I'd guess come Big 12 play K-State will have 10K plus in actual attendance as long as the team is performing how most of us expect it too.

If Frank was still here the attendance would be higher, but I don't think it would be by a lot. Instead of 4-5K actual we'd probably have 6-7K, but its not like the place would have been full for ND, Lamar, and Ala D2.

if you're blaming attendance #'s on the opponent, it's important to realize that the home non-con schedule isnt getting any better.

I would expect that ordinary K-State fans either like Weber better than Martin or really don't give too much of a crap about who coach.  Why on Earth would anyone try to extrapolate the opinions of this niche site to those of the ordinary K-State fan?  Really, no one else cares about Frank.  It's just you.

Definitely, and attendance won't get much better either. We won't see 10K until probably Jan 19th against OU.

If Frank was the coach, we'd be ranked and picked to finish higher in the league which would get more people out. Plus you never know when Frank's gonna Frank and we end up with a single digit win over a MEAC team.

I still think we'll get 15k+ at the Florida game. People will respond to winning more than anything. Next week will be huge.

hmmmmmm, just checked and Florida doesn't play in Bramlage.  Not sure you were aware of that, but just wanted to pass along in case you showed up in the wrong town.

I agree with _FAN about it's more about people just not showing up than it is about tickets not being sold. People have tickets and just aren't coming. As a player that would upset me more.

I wonder if part of the frustration from the players is also due to the fact that some (most?) wanted him gone. Now that they are happy with the coach they are playing for, fans just aren't showing up. That would make me sad and to them maybe make them feel that people just wanted to see Frank and it wasn't about the team so much.

So basically, they feel that fans only wanted to watch them when they were miserable with their coach, but now that they enjoy their coach no one gives a crap.

I'm sure this will all change midway through the season, people will start showing up, and those that hate Currie/BW will finally get over themselves and support the team as well. At least I hope so.

To paraphrase, Weber is the soda pop for breakfast, ice cream for lunch dad. Of course the players like him.
