Grad School somewhere else
« on: October 31, 2012, 11:53:23 PM »
I've seen this topic addressed a little bit in some other threads, but I figured its own thread might be useful.  How many people here went to grad school at other nearby/rival schools?  This could be me next fall, because two schools on my list are ku and texas.  If I end up at ku, a number of things have gone wrong, but it's still a pretty good place for my field which will assuredly make me no money.  Is it kind of a pain in the ass to do this?  Are you quick to compartmentalize the different experiences?  Will I maintain a "destroy it from within" mentality, or does it get lost in the shuffle of things?

Was pretty much set on going to KU for a few months last year.  It was pretty hard to come to grips with, EMAW wise.  But I rationalized it by thinking it would allow me to attend every game and be within striking distance of MHK.

I came back to K-State for grad school
BS 06'
Washburn BA 10 or 11 or something.  I missed cupcakes.

i went to grad school at lots of places, never developed any sort of affinity for those schools' athletic teams.  for that matter, i  never developed any sort of affinity for the athletic teams of schools i attended as an undergrad either.  cheering for anything but the team of your townie youth is pretty sick and perverted.

My brother grew up a kstate fan but I was always suspicious when he let me be Steve Henson and he was Mookie Blaylock during driveway bball. Then he went to KU grad school for a year and became a squawk. Seems very phony. Don't fall into that trap.

You won't give a crap about the other school's teams.  Grad school is more like a job.

Go to grad school at K-State. Who knows, the football team may end up being way better and way more fun than when you were in undergrad. They might even challenge for a national title.

Going to ku for grad school is just like continuing on at KSU but with your classes being in a weird building that's pretty far off campus.

Anybody here have any recommendations for business school, both in terms of how worthwhile it is and which school programs in the region might be enjoyable? TIA.

If K-State has a b-school, I recommend that one.

Why wouldn't you go to Texas?

I'd have to imagine that walking around Austin everyday in purple would be one of the more enjoyable things in life.

Sounds like he has to get in first. Texas does sound like a lot of fun. I always wondered what little brother's school would feel like.

Leave the region or go somewhere that your company will pay for.

fuqua

goEMAW's top secret american airlines insider cat went to fuqua. confirms it was a great experience. goemawer rick daris went to ku for grad school and enjoyed it as well. going to school is going to school. you don't have to sign some piece of paper promising to cheer for their athletic teams. i'd probably decide on which town or part of the country you really want to be in and then go from there.
