Be back on January 8th

We have a football team competing for the national title and a bball team that is going to look ugly while they figure things out  :blah: over the next couple months. Come back in January when the games that matter are being played.

Pre-January games only matter if you lose, which is a distinct possibility.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

No, there are some of us.  I mean I'm not the best to judge.  But I am fully engaged.  View from the parking lot, notwithstanding.

I'll admit it; I'm as least comboed up as I've been since the Wooly days. I think for me the majority is BCS #2, Kleinsman, etc.

However, a big part of it is oscar and its just hard to get excited about his basketball. Plus, this board has just become a pit. JMHO. I mean, most/many are trying hard to not make things about Frank, but for a while until oscar's teams really have their own identity, its going to be about Frank even when its not about Frank and even when no one is talking about Frank. Frank was so much of what EMAW basketball became the last 5 years that its going to be harder to get over him not being here than I thought.

Now you are making me pissed about the whole situation again.  This sucks.  I will be supporting the team and oscar is totally going to be happy, so there's that.

I will too, but I tried to just move on and I couldn't.

It will get better though.

There's plenty of fun basketball coming. By the end of November we'll know quite about this team. By January we'll have a good idea how well we can compete in the Big 12.

If oscar gets these guys to 12-2 going into Big 12 play, I'll be pretty pleased.

Then imagining the OOD on January 5th, 2 days before....

Oh man.

I still can't decide whether to take down my framed picture of Frank and put away my Frank Martin signed basketball. It hurts. When I saw oscar on the bench vs Washburn...I think a part of me died. I'm really trying to get over this whole deal, but damn, it's WAY harder than I thought it would be. Hopefully you're right about identity, but what if oscar is just the most vanilla guy in the world and this team never gets an identity?  :dunno:

first of all, stop using vanilla as a synonym for bland and boring.  vanilla is a complex, very strange, and oddly delightful flavor.  somehow it has passed into near contempt in our culture, highlighting the dangers of familiarity.

second of all, look at those teeth.  you don't get that color off vanilla.

Sys makes a good point. Vanilla is a great flavor that is often unfairly maligned.

I still like basketball and will watch all of our games but the football team being elite does make it hard to put full excitement into it. also oscar being a boring sack of crap. one of these things will no longer be a barrier to entry in a little over 2 months.

That's fair, I'm sorry I denigrated vanilla by associating it with oscar Weber.

Apparently coaches make a big difference when it comes to my interest level.  With Huggs and FM I was off the charts, even during football season, but oscar and JC have really killed it for me. If my excitement level last year was a 9, this year it's a 2.

I'd put the odds of me going to a non-con game at 50% because I honestly think I'd fall asleep.

I'm hoping this will pass, but one thing that won't pass is me turning off the coaches post-game show on the ride home.  That used to be fun.  :frown:

Your offense is going to look like dog crap so long as oscar Weber is coach unless ... and only unless ... Angel sticks to his guns and just balls.  If he buys into milking to clock and working for long jumpers you guys are going to want to gouge your eyes out.

oscar Weber is the only cach I know of that loves the 18 footer.  Not layups (we never get any), not shots from the post, not even open threes.   We shot more 18 footers and got to the line less with him at Illinois than any other team in the conference.

And seeing how he thinks it is his critics that are wrong I don't see that changing.  After all, he teaches motion at clinics and none of you guys are qualified to criticize his dumb offense.

Go KSU btw, Klein for Heisman.   :ksu:

The optimist in me says that this won't be an issue this season because as I've previously said I don't think much will change and he'll properly utilize the strengths of this current crop of players.  However, I'm a FTr slut and I will not be able to handle being mediocre at it in the future if it manifests itself that way.

Solid combination of excellent bbs'ing and VHVIQ.
