mocat rankings / week 8 predicto thread
« on: October 15, 2012, 12:45:56 PM »
Correctly picked all 5 B12 games last week, 7-1 overall. Good sign for the mocat system. Updated rankings:

1. Alabama
2. Kansas State
3. Florida State
4. Florida
5. Mississippi State
6. Rutgers
7. Notre Dame
8. Cincinnati
9. Oregon
10. LSU
11. Oregon State
12. South Carolina
13. Louisiana Tech
14. West Virginia
15. USC
16. Louisville
17. Boise State
18. Texas Tech
19. TCU
20. Oklahoma
21. Georgia
22. Texas A&M
23. Stanford
24. Clemson
25. Iowa State

Big 12:

1. Kansas State
2. West Virginia
3. Texas Tech
4. TCU
5. Oklahoma
6. Iowa State
7. Texas
8. Baylor
9. Oklahoma State
19. Kansas

For the predictos, some of you may ask, "How come teams ranked lower sometimes are predicted to beat higher ranked teams?" Well, it's because the rankings now take into account records*, but for the head-to-head predictos I ignore teams' records and just look at the stats matchups.

(*this makes Florida State's ranking in the mocat system that much more impressive. mocat system LOVES florida state, most likely due to FSU's first three games where they outscored their opponents 176-3. FSU is not likely to drop any time soon either, as their next opponents are Miami, Duke, VT, & Maryland)

Week 8 Predictos:

Iowa State 25
Oklahoma State 30

Texas Tech 24
TCU 22

Kansas 16
Oklahoma 34

Baylor 38
Texas 41

South Carolina 22
Florida 19

LSU 26
Texas A&M 27

Florida State 38
Miami 18

and finally...

Kansas State 39
West Virginia 29

Otherwise,  :lynchmob:

If we learned anything from mocat's week 7 predicto thread, it was that the score prediction algorithm still needs a bit of tweaking. However, for simply picking winners, there is no better system currently available. I look for mocat to miss just one again this week, dropping the ISU/OSU game of course.

mocat, for your system to really gain a foothold here it needs a name. For best results, an acronym.

They are sandwiched in between UT and Notre Dame on OU's schedule.

Same way UNT stayed within two TD's of da cats.
