The University of Texas: Sucking since 2005
« on: October 14, 2012, 05:25:17 PM »
I mean, c'mon we all know Colt was a fraud and quit at the first sign of adversity (2009 BCS title game).  Plus, the Big 12 sucked really bad in 2009 making their run look like UK 2007 (losing the only game that mattered).

Some great coaches get old and the game passes them by.

And for some (very few really) it doesn't.

The more I watch Texas, the more convinced I am that Mack is just a slightly better Gene Chizik, and that's only because it's easier to recruit elite players to Texas than Auburn.  They both only have titles because of inhuman QBs and they both have shitty teams when they don't have elite QB talent.

I thought about this today and I wonder maybe it isn't as east to recruit to UT as some people think.  I mean don't get me wrong they have elite facilties and that cute national title in 2005, but DFW is closer to Norman than Austin and A&M is closer to Houston.  Location for kids does matter and if A&M has had better talent then their coaching has been even more atrocious than we thought.  I think you hear more about players from Houston and DFW than Austin and San Antonio.   :dunno:

Reality...before you get all  :runaway: I'm talking maybe preceived recruiting simpleness is 10 and in reality it may at times be closer to 9

No. No, it really isn't. It's a 10. It's always a ten. They have Austin for the kids who wanna party. They have a "family atmosphere" and "clean program" for the kids with uptight parents. They have national titles. They have money out the ass. They have the best facilities in the country. Norman is a crap town in goddamn Oklahoma and College Station has the Dixie Chicken and a bizarre cult filled with dittoheads. It will ALWAYS be easier to recruit to Texas then OU or A&M. Always. Mack and his staff have completely whiffed on evaluations of talent in a number of important cases during Texas's period of decline (just look at their qb play the past few years). It's not that they can't get the best talent, it's that Mack and his staff haven't gone after the right people.

Some great coaches get old and the game passes them by.

And for some (very few really) it doesn't.

Mack has always been more of a manager and recruiter than a coach. I think if Texas sticks with him, he will have them back within 2-3 years.

or they could just hire a younger coach who will have them back in 2 years

I've always wondered why is it so hard to recruit to Hawaii? I mean granted crap conference, no real football tradition, family probably couldn't see many home games, etc.. but its rough ridin' hawaii

Yeah, if they hit the jackpot like they did with Mack.
