For me, one of the best parts of buying a watch is the hunt. Might get some ideas here: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/Saw this article today on a maker that seems to fall squarely in your range, although they run sales, too: http://dappered.com/2012/10/win-it-the-christopher-ward-c9-harrison-automatic/Also, well below your price range, but an interesting brand is Vostok out of Russia. In-house movements and I've heard that some watch aficionados wear one as their "beater" watch. If you're a Wes Anderson fan, Steve Zissou wore one.
I like your holiday bowl watch. Don't get a new one.

The Christopher Ward watches are exactly what I'm looking for right now. I love the understated luxury in them. And I was looking for something with a band. KU is right on par with Notre Dame ... when it comes to adding additional conference revenue
Beer pro tip: never drink anything other than BL, coors, pbr, maybe a few others that I'm forgetting
Symmetry of weight is very important for me. Watches put me off-balance.
Are you going to get a buggy whip also?

Huge arm muscles make this not a huge deal.I've got pretty massive pythons and tiny wrists, which is an elite set-up for watch wearing. Still, I'll have nothing to do with them.
