He was basically bragging about going to Puerto Rico and the Dominican to look at the hurricane damage as a gesture of good will (why the NYC mayor does that is beyond me) and then says basically what he says, it matters more cause it's NYC and it's recognizable and Kansas isn't. NYC is about 17% Puerto Rican and Dominican.   May be higher post-Maria.  Its probably the largest mainland concentration of boricuas.

OK, fair, it just seems weird for a mayor of a city to visit countries/commonwealths like a president would. Regardless it was a unnecessary shot for no reason while bragging that you went to do something. It's not like Laura Kelly was pimpng she went down there and was wondering where the NYC mayor was the whole time and that was his response

For sure it was a clumsy and needless throwaway statement to make.  If he wanted a contrast, he could have chosen Texas or Florida and gotten some mileage out of it from his base, rather than the entire "WTF...Kansas?!?" reaction he did get.

From the short clip I don’t understand what there is to be upset about. I don’t even know what kind of “brand” you would associate with Kansas that isn’t negative. I’d say the state is almost famously neutral (though lacking in diversity), which is probably what prompted the comment. If you want to be part of a brand, move to Missouri and be part of the meth and racism clan.

I thought a lot of the discourse was insincere. It was a lot of, I don't really love my wife but I'll be damned if I let you say anything about her. The lack of pride in Kansas by Kansans is something that has always bothered me. It took the cocky lib from NYC to finally get Kansans, specifically western kansans and wichitans to get all chesty.
