i would imagine that we tend to have a relatively low number of turnovers on offense (as a byproduct of our style) and a relatively average (maybe slightly below) number of takeaways on D. This would lend itself to a turnover margin that appears to involve an element of luck if you don't look past the numbers.

MSU really isn't very good. How many teams on our schedule are we really capable of beating with the turnovers we had that game? I can sort of understand someone just looking at the box score and not being overly impressed because you wouldn't see just how physically dominating we were.

Yea they have some nice athletes across the line but skill position play especially QB was poor.
