Road trip to a wedding in Hilton Head island. Some of the stops along the way included

1. Old family cemetary in TN where my great great great cousin's uncle was buried.
2. At least 3 civil war battlefields
3. Atlanta (needs shermanizing again)

Glacier, Yellowstone, Badlands among other highlights on one trip.  White Sands, 4 corners, Carlsbad, Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde on another.  Took a lot of trips out west.  Still haven't been east of Odessa, MO by car other than up 35 to Duluth.

When I was little we had some pastureland with some ponds between Salina and Concordia several miles back on dirt roads.  Go up there and stay in the camper and tents for a few days.  Wouldn't see anyone or hear any vehicles.  Fishing, exploring, camping.  It really was a great time.  Simple, cheap fun.

First road trip I was old enough to drive my mom and I went to Salt Lake City, were on our way from Denver headed north to I-80 and it was closed due to snow, so we took some windy road through the rockies. Ended up driving through Steamboat Springs after driving down the mountains. Pretty much the best detour ever. Salt Lake City blows ass, though...

Drove cross country to Wally World when I was younger.  Crazy trip.  Shared a beer with my dad, killed grandma's dog, got all the way there and the fracker was closed.  We decided to go to Europe a couple of years later.  Similar wackiness ensued.

My parents loooooved stopping and finding ancient relative's graves AND historic battlefield sites. The only thing we did more often was tour presidential homes.

Been through every state in the lower 48, and most of southern Canada on road trips with my parents when we were kids.

I think my mom still has a list of the finest restrooms in the country somewhere.  She should probably publish a book.

Didn't look anything like that when I was there.  It was November.  It was cloudy and cold with a 30 mph wind blowing in off Lake Superior.  Still pretty neat, though.

Ever check out rock city?   Giant rough ridin' circular boulders.   INSANE!

sorry if you can't see the image.  My work has blocked photobucket; but not facebook... go figure.

Have been there a few times, most recently last Spring.  Never actually paid to go in though.

They are actually pretty interesting geologically.  There used to be another set of these in the area, but they were broken up a hundred years or so ago for building materials.

The only noises would be bullfrogs, coyotes, birds the wind, and an occasional fish splashing in the ponds.

So much more relaxing than any vacation in a big city.  And since the purpose of a vacation is to relax....
