I'll give the line for the Curriebots before they even give it to save time.

Fox Sports lowballed us, the revenue earned from new kstateHD subscriptions and additional advertising revenue will make up the revenue.

Whomever claims this better be ready with numbers.

That's not even the point.  Being on basic cable in the region is worth more in exposure and free advertising than whatever we get selling web subscriptions.

What a rough ridin' chode.

When you don't really care about fielding a winning basketball team, that point just doesn't matter.

are we seriously not going to be available on ESPN3 (like we were when FSNKC carried us) when every other rough ridin' conference team is?   :frown:

If I see John tomorrow walking around the stadium, I'll ask.

Trying to limit TV exposure in order to drive up ticket/kstate.hd sales, under the veil of we couldn't make our usual TV contract work, just shows what a snake in the grass JC is.  This sums up why so many of our fans dislike him.  He makes decisions based on what's best for KSU Athletic's bottom line like KSU Athletics is a company.  Well, that's not the purpose of KSU Athletics, the purpose is to bring joy to KSU Cat fans.  That's supposed to be his #1 goal, and it's not.

you guys know how captaincrap rolls into these types of threads and usually destroys us and tells us it's not like that at all and we're going to have ESPN3 just like we did and local access just like we did and all that?  I cannot rough ridin' wait for him to do that.  Because I'm really rough ridin' nervous he's not going to.   :frown:

If we still had Frank, I would be on Currie's side here because there would be no reason for FSN to low ball us. Currie hired oscar Weber, though, and while he may not have found any university presidents or AD's who had anything bad to say about oscar, he should have been smart enough to know that tv execs would not agree.

What if he isn't going to, and we have to wait until rough ridin' november to find out if we can watch our favorite basketball team?

We already know. You can watch the Cats, but it's going to cost you $10 per month and you will need to hook your laptop up to your tv.

If they end up putting the games on Kansas 22 & Metro Sports they still can and likely will still be on WatchEspn.com.  The issue is for the thousands of K-Staters who live in Kansas that will best case scenario have to purchase a Full Court subscription to watch all of the home non-cons, worst case scenario will have to watch the games on the internet.  These are acceptable options for EMAWs who live in Seattle, completely unacceptable for EMAWs living in Wichita, Olathe, or Manhattan.

Burn it the eff down. Walk away and don't turn around when it explodes. Keep your back to it, continue walking, and maybe light up a cigarette or something.

Yeah, that's why this is so confounding.  The entire point of the tier two network coverage is to provide broadcasts for the local region, where the vast majority of our fan base resides.

The K-Statehd thing is ok for what it is, but it's not supposed to take the place of tier two network coverage.  There has to be something more to this story, because there is no way JC could possibly think this little in-house tv thing is going to replace a major cable broadcast.  And I'd venture to say, that if surveyed, 90% of K-State fans don't have any idea what K-Statehd is, have never used it, and will not use it if it means watching a game on a computer, or involves the gymnastics of hooking a computer up to he TV.  Hell, I won't waste my time with this much less my 65 year old parents.  And until it's available as a channel on a cable provider, this isn't going to change.

All money aside, we are severly, severly crippling he exposure of the brand and the visibility of the school in the local region.  This part blows me, if true.

We really need CaptainCrap to get in here and dress us up in clownsuits right now.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Just to clarify, is it Learfield or the KSU Athletic Department negotiating?  There might be legal seperation between the two but in reality there is influence/agenda setting done by the AD's office to Learfield?  I dunno.  Just trying to figure out what other option KSU would have that would provide it the exposure that FSKC would.  KstateHD is an option, might drive subscriptions (certainly would make it look more profitable which is always good for the ol' resume). We could probably get a few games on NBC or whatever like KU does, but not 10.

Couple things:

1. Ath Dept, and Currie specifically, are not at all involved in negoations. It is the job of the rights holder (Learfield / K-State Sports Properties) to negotiate on behalf of K-State, they are the ones making/rejecting offers.

2. This is a typical carriage fee negotiation, where both sides want money (Fox wants to keep more, Learfield wants to get more). It is debatable who is causing the hangup, but I have been told there are people in Bramlage that are a little irritated and feel Learfield overplayed their hand by asking for too much. But as in any negotiation, it probably depends on who you talked to about it.

3. Worst case scenario, 3rd tier rights will be Time Warner / Cox for this season and back on FSN next season. All games would still be available on ESPN3 / Watch ESPN / Full Court. And I think Learfield would have some explaining to do for the Ath Dept.

4. This has nothing to do with K-StateHDTV

5. There is still time for one party or another to come back to the table with a counter. My guess is that will happen at some point before the season starts.
